Sammul Chan Receives A-Minus For Theology Class

Recently, actor Sammul Chan (陳鍵鋒), who has been focused on the Mainland China market, filmed a TV program where he shared his life experiences. Aside from revealing his previous suicidal thoughts, he also shared that he is pursuing a four-year degree in theology remotely at a school in Chicago. The 41-year-old just completed his first semester with an A-minus.

Sammul said, “The most challenging is allocating time. When I was shooting dramas in Mainland, I would do homework on set whenever I had time.”

Actually, when he was filming for his role, Erlang, he would be in his costume with the fan blowing at him while doing work on the computer. “It felt like I time traveled,” he expressed. “Since it’s a remote course, the teacher has to monitor my progress to see how much I know, so I have to submit three to four assignments weekly.”

Although Sammul is studying theology, he expressed his motive is not to change careers, but to deepen his understanding of the true meaning of the Bible. As for the next few years, he will continue to study while filming dramas, so he can pay for his tuition.

  1. I’m curious about his syllabus. Does he study about other religion or just Christianity?

According to the dictionary, ‘theology’ means the study of the nature of God and religious belief. So, I always thought students will study all kind of religion. But, the syllabus I manage to check online mostly focus on Christianity.
