Song Hye-kyo Opens Up About Post-Divorce Struggle

Korean actress Song Hye-kyo made her first appearance on a variety show in 23 years by guesting on popular show You Quiz on the Block. Besides promoting her long-awaited film The Priests 2, she also opened up about her life journey over the years, candidly revealing that she went through a very low period following her divorce and took “five years to learn how to love herself”!
Reflections on Her Career
On the show, Song Hye-kyo revisited her career path alongside hosts Yoo Jae-seok and Cho Sae Ho. She also shared glimpses of her private self, admitting that in her 20s, there were times she felt overwhelmed by work and wanted to escape. Looking back made her realize she has “missed out on many opportunities” because she was picky about her roles—and joked that she “didn’t know what made her think she had the right to be so picky”.
Keeping a Gratitude Journal and Embracing Self-love
With 28 years in showbiz Song Hye-kyo has long grown accustomed to rumors, but still gets upset whenever her family are the ones affected. Instead of explaining, she would often respond with “You should ask the person spreading the rumors”!
Opening up about her emotional transformation in recent years, Song revealed that she used to prioritize her family and friends above herself, and would often be racked by a sense of guilt, questioning, “Why did I do that?” Asked how she coped during the difficult period following her divorce from actor Song Joong-ki, she shared that she started the habit of keeping a gratitude journal, and also started to practice self-love and prioritizing her own feelings—which continued for five years.
Embracing a gradual change in her mindset, Song Hye-kyo no longer feels acutely disappointed when she doesn’t achieve a certain goal, but now reminds herself that “What’s meant to be mine will be mine; what’s not will go to someone else.”
With her journey into self-love, Song Hye-kyo no longer regrets things past, facing both joy and pain with better self-acceptance. Now, she tells herself, “This is life. These experiences are here to help me grow.”
