TVB Anniversary Awards Season Heats Up

Year-end has become synonymous with TVB’s Anniversary Awards. With this year’s Anniversary productions From Hong Kong to Beijing <香港人在北京>, Romeo and His Butterfly Lover <羅密歐與祝英台>, and The Queen of NEWS <新聞女王>, hot favorites to win TV King are Moses Chan (陳豪) and Kenneth Ma (馬國明). Meanwhile Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) will face Nancy Wu (胡定欣), Aimee Chan (陳茵媺), and Katy Kung (龔嘉欣) in the TV Queen race.

Every year starting in October, TVB releases Anniversary dramas to gear up for their annual gala and awards presentation. Besides Romeo and His Butterfly Lover, Moses also stars in Treasure of Destiny <新四十二章> and Narcotics Heroes <破毒強人> and he presents himself in diverse roles.

On the other hand, Kenneth is still sitting on a wave of popularity from Speaker of the Law <法言人> and The Invisibles <隱形戰隊>. The latter was TVB’s top drama in viewership ratings this year. Having won Best Actor in 2019, Kenneth maintains a “casual” attitude over this year’s race. ”Like every year, my biggest wish is to win Best Drama. Winning as a group is better than winning solo – it’s happier when we’re all having dinner together. This year, I have Speaker of the Law and The Invisibles released so far. The Invisibles has a good chance [for winning Best Drama] because it’s the highest rated drama so far and it was voted as a fan favorite during the online vote.”

Although The Queen of NEWS has not been released yet, Kenneth is “very confident” and hopes viewers like the drama. Commenting on his role, Kenneth said, “My character in The Queen of NEWS is definitely different. I’m a bad guy and I fight with Charmaine from start to finish.” He noted his good friend Jazz Lam’s (林子善) performance in The Invisibles and hopes he will win Best Supporting Actor.

Aimee Chan’s Return to TVB

Aimee Chan’s (陳茵媺) comeback in Romeo and His Butterfly Lover is highly anticipated, but she will be facing fierce competition against Charmaine Sheh for TV Queen.

Charmaine has a proven track of critical and popular hits. Line Walker <使徒行者> broke records when it aired in 2014. Charmaine remains the only Hong Kong actress to win 11 awards. The screenplay for The Queen of NEWS is said to be well-written, and Charmaine is particularly fond of her role.

However, Aimee, Nancy, and Katy voiced they have not given the awards much thought and their only wish is to deliver exciting performances for viewers.

  1. Would be crazy if Aimee won it…she hasn’t acted in a while…if she did win then it’s way to obvious that it’s really rigged.

  2. are they finally releasing some tvb production? they’ve been showing mainland dramas one after another.

  3. I completely agree with the previous 2 writers that “it’s crazy if Aimee is named the Best Actress”!! I agree she is pretty but looks alone is not the only criteria to win an acting award. My family and I just can’t bring ourselves to watch Aimee act; our goose bumps just keep showing up and we have to turn off the TV for any shows that she is in. I think it would be great for herself and everyone if she continues to remain in her goody motherly role to her 3 lovely kids and wifey to Mo.

  4. 陳茵媺 sure stay home and continue to make baby for Moses… She can’t not act… I feel bad for others casts that i will not even watch for 2 minutes

  5. funny how the romeo dramas is helmed as highly anticipated. I thought it was stupid even from the name and watch the trailer – looks very slow moving plot and boring romance theme. Typically storyline for romance dramas.

  6. Mandy is not getting any recognition. She is not the best actress but still better than Katy Kung and Aimee Chan, IMO.

  7. I agree with Apocalypse. If Aimee won, it would be rigged since she just got back into the game. If Charmaine won, it would be too typical. If Nancy won, there would be a lot of yays and nays. If Katy won, it would be surprising (but not cos of her acting. In fact, I like watching her). Mmmm…I support Nancy xD
