“Virtual Lover” Actress Kate Ng Loses 90 Pounds in 2 Years

TVB actress Kate Ng (吳文懿) appeared in Kwun Tong to promote currently airing drama Virtual Lover <虛擬情人>. In the series, Kate plays the role of Princess Heart, a character who suffers from low self-esteem due to her weight and is frequently bullied. She eventually meets her virtual lover, Adam, played by Brian Chu (朱敏瀚).

In an interview, Kate shared her character is somewhat similar to herself in real life. “Before I entered the entertainment industry, I weighed over 210 pounds at my heaviest. I really love eating and couldn’t control myself. But I never felt inferior because of my weight. After joining the industry, I realized I’d been overweight for quite some time and I started wanting to look better. I worked hard on exercising and losing weight. I lost 90 pounds over two years, but I’m still around 20 pounds away from my goal. I’m pushing myself even harder and haven’t slowed down.”

Netizens mentioned Kate looks like former Miss Chinese International winner Christine Kuo (苟芸慧). Flustered by the praise, Kate said, “I really like her too–she’s very beautiful. I’d love to be as fit as she is. In this industry, standing next to people like her does bring pressure, which is why I’m working so hard to keep losing weight.”
