Wayne Lai to Reduce Workload After Pay Raise

After winning TVB Best Actor for the third time in the last four years, Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) can now finally afford to lessen his workload so he can spend more time with his family. Wayne reportedly revealed that the main reason for decreasing his load was so he can save enough time and energy to bring another baby into the family!

Despite winning Best Actor in 2009 and again in 2010, Wayne did not get a salary increase until winning Best Actor for the third time in 2012. Sources say that Wayne got a 30 percent increase in his pay after winning 2012’s Best Actor, and as a result, Wayne is able to afford to reduce his workload for next year.

Since winning Best Actor in 2009, Wayne’s popularity skyrocketed. Although he was able to bring more bread to the table back home, he never received a salary increase for his win, and the only thing he could do was to increase his workload to earn more income.

A friend of Wayne said, “Wayne and Julia (his wife) have always wanted another daughter. Their son is already 15 years old, and he would be capable of taking care of his younger sister. But Wayne has been too busy. If he’s not filming a drama, then he is filming a commercial or doing stage performances. Even if he does have a day off of work, he would rather spend that day sleeping.”

Wayne and Julia, also his manager, decided that enough is enough. They decided to request for a salary increase after Wayne won his third Best Actor honor, and TVB gladly accepted their request.

However, Wayne’s request for a pay raise was not because he wanted to earn more money, but because he wanted to be able to lessen his workload without having to lessen his income.

“I want to have more time to rest and… well, you guys get the rest!” exclaimed Wayne.

Wayne is currently looking at a detached house in Sai Kung that is worth approximately $60 million HKD. The actor said, “My wife and I have been looking at some houses in Sai Kung, a few months before I started working on my new drama. A detached house has always been my dream house, and Sai Kung is the best place because it is close to the TVB studios. But we are still in very preliminary discussions. The cheapest house costs at least $60 million HKD!”

It was reported that if Wayne’s baby-making is successful, the family will be moving homes immediately!

Truthfully, the $60 million HKD sum should not be a problem for Wayne at all. Wayne has been one of the highest-paid TVB actors in the last few years, and in 2012 alone, Wayne amassed an income of at least $10 million HKD.

The Breakdown:

The Confidant <大太監>, 33 episodes – $1.3 million HKD
Detective Columbo <神探高倫布>, 25 episodes – $1 million HKD
The Love Firm <傳愛事務所>, 20 episodes – $800,000 HKD

2 Endorsements – $4.5 million HKD
Stage performances – $2.4 million HKD

  1. I’m so proud of Wayne I’m glad he’s finally taking the break he needs. I’m surprised that The Love Firm is only 20 Eps I thought it would at least be 25

  2. He is the most talented and popular among tvb actors but his income is so low compared to Kevin Cheng.

  3. He definitely needs a break or pay for eye bag removal. Have you seen how big they are??

    Again, currency reporting is incorrect.

$60 million HKD should simply be HK$60 million. No need to double mention $ and D in HKD.

    Kapish?
