Wayne Lai Was Not Invited to the 2021 TVB Anniversary Awards

While the 2021 TVB Anniversary Awards wrapped up on Saturday, controversies continue to arise over this year’s awards winners. Although Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) trained frantically for his role in The Ringmaster <拳王> and as always, delivered a laudable performance, the former TV King was not invited to the awards ceremony this year.

Playing a retired boxer in The Ringmaster, Wayne diligently underwent a rigorous exercise routine to rapidly lose weight and gain muscles. Losing over 20 pounds in two months, Wayne said his body fat percentage was the lowest it has ever been. However, despite his dedication and efforts, it was a surprise that Wayne was not even included as Top Five Best Actor nominees while his co-star Owen Cheung (張振朗) made the list.

When asked why he did not attend the Anniversary Awards, Wayne simply replied that he was not invited to the ceremony.

Wayne, who was working in China during that time, was seen meeting up with Florence Kwok (郭少芸), Anne Heung (向海嵐), Teresa Mak (麥家琪) and Priscilla Wong (黃翠如) in Shunduk, China. Sharing a group photo on his social media, Wayne jokingly wrote, “I’m with four beautiful ladies. I didn’t even get this treatment when I played Pigsy in [Journey to the West (西遊記)].”

  1. It’s honestly kind of baffling to me that TVB would not invite one of their artistes to the awards ceremony, especially someone of Wayne’s calibre. Do they not have enough seats or something? I mean, they’re all your artistes, it shouldn’t matter if they happen to not have a drama this year or not be nominated for something (even though Wayne DOES have a drama out this year). Seems so disrespectful.

  2. Was there a limit on attendees this year? It feel like a lot of people stayed home. I saw Samantha Ko and some other people post their reactions of them watching the results from home. If the number of attendees were limited, then it is really obvious that they knew they were going to give the awards to Shaun Tam, considering his parents were there while many other actual TVB artists were left out.

  3. Linda Chung was clearly disappointed for not winning the Best Actress Award. It was written all over her face. She was confident that the award will go to her and that’s the reason why she flew back from Canada. Compared to the other 4 Best Actresses’ nominees, the award should go to Ali. She acted well as a robot in the show. Rosina is nowhere being the Best Actress. I find her acting ‘stiff’.

    1. Completely agree. While I did enjoy Rosina’s character, Ali deffo had the best acting out of all 5. From a management POV, I think Linda should have won since she’s lost out so many times and TVB should be giving her some incentive for returning to film again. Ali has already won so losing out isn’t too big of a deal for her. Rosina should have just got a consolation prize tbh.

  4. Yep, Wayne was so much better than Owen in The Ringmaster…but unfortunately isn’t the one TVB is pushing to the top…

  5. Omg Priscilla is in China for work!

If Wayne was invited he’d be the rightful winner of BA, and tvb isn’t going to let him win a fourth time.
