Promoted to TVB Chief Creative Officer in 2021, Wong Cho Lam (王祖藍) created many variety shows boosting viewership ratings, such as Dub of War <好聲好戲> and Mommy’s Voice <日日媽媽聲>. Despite his successful shows, there were rumors of discord between Wong Cho Lam and TVB, with speculations that he had quietly left the station in August.
One of the biggest disputes occurred in 2021, when Wong Cho Lam allegedly had a quarrel with senior executives over Linda Chung’s (鍾嘉欣) loss in Best Actress for Kids’ Lives Matter (星空下的仁醫). Cho Lam had advocated for Linda, who is also close friends with his wife Leanne Li (李亞男). Cho Lam was noticeably absent from the Anniversary Awards presentation that year. In recent months, Cho Lam and Leanne have been staying in China for work.
In August, Cho Lam’s photo disappeared from TVB website’s artiste section. When TVB General Manager, Eric Tsang (曾志偉) was recovering from stent surgery, Cho Lam stayed in touch with him and guested on Super Trio <獎門人中秋感謝祭> to support the variety show. Commenting on his “disappearance” from the TVB artiste section, Cho Lam explained that he made the switch to production work two years ago. He explained his prolonged absence from TVB station was due to his work travel needs. At the time, he was asked to respond to speculations over his resignation as Chief Creative Officer, but Cho Lam did not give a direct reply. “You can check the TVB website. What you see with your own eyes is the truth.”
Cho Lam again disproved the rumors when he made an appearance at the TVB Sales Presentation in October. TVB showcased upcoming variety shows planned for 2024. The most eye-catching was The Fantastic Trio <福祿壽訓練學院>, which reunites Cho Lam with Johnson Li (李思捷) and Louis Yuen (阮兆祥) after six years. Cho Lam’s involvement with the improvisation show is the strongest sign in recent months that he is back on good terms with TVB despite earlier rumors.
