Anthony Wong, Kent Tong at “The Hero” Costume Fitting

Getting ready to commence filming for the action-packed period drama, The Hero‘s<梟雄> cast attended the costume fitting. Besides veterans, Anthony Wong (黃秋生) and Kent Tong (湯鎮業), TVB’s own TV King and Queen, Wayne Lai (黎耀祥) and Myolie Wu (胡杏兒), also star in producer Amy Wong’s . Others include, Jade Leung (梁琤) – who will have a romantic relationship with Wayne, Louisa So (蘇玉華), Natalie Tong (唐詩詠), Alice Chan (陳煒), and Jeanette Leung (梁政珏).

Whereas Wayne usually plays the lead protagonist in a series, this time he will turn into a traitor. Wayne does not worry about any audience members hating him. In fact, Wayne believes that the viewers’ hate will validate his acting abilities. “I’ve been a good guy all these years. It’s time to try something new, and become the villainous bad guy for a change.”

Myolie, on the other hand, will be involved in a love triangle with Anthony and Louisa. Feeling slightly pressured to perform well in front of a senior, Myolie does not mind if she gets scolded by Anthony – she will take it as a learning experience. She also has to perform Beijing opera in the drama.

To add even more drama, Kent will be portraying a playboy who will be involved with Alice, Jeanette, and Natalie. Since Kent will film a rape scene with Natalie, he jokingly expressed that he will have to report to his wife about the upcoming scenes first.

Anthony Pays Out Of Own Pocket

Compared to Mainland China, TVB pays their artistes a considerably lower salary. When asked if the station paid $400,000 HKD per episode, Anthony exclaimed, “That’s crazy. How could TVB pay $400,000 HKD per episode. More like $400,000 for the entire 30 episodes.” Anthony shockingly revealed that he had to pay $100,000 HKD from his own pocket in order to cover the costs for filming The Hero in Mainland, including hotel and food costs, “It’s to ensure that I rest properly allowing me to recover quicker.”

  1. Natalie always films rape scenes! & she’s always playin pitiful roles too!

Woah Jennette Leung has a pretty big role in the drama!

  2. Natalie’s role is repetitive. Glad to see Jade and Alice again…hopefully, they have bigger roles.

  3. Can’t wait to see this drama.
Love Wayne, Louisa So, Anthony, Jeanette Leung & Nat Tong.

    1. Very strong cast and some new faces. Bet this will be over 30 ratings.

  4. iS THAT Ron in the 2nd pic at the bottom? Oh no! Ron gonna get scolded by Anthony for his weak acting skill lol

    1. Actually I think they will get on well? Ron after all is a guy’s guy, so they may end up liking him.

      1. what you mean guys guy? do you mean he is gay? lol.

    2. I think Anthony will help Ron and maybe even I improve his acting. I also think they will all get along well and help each other out.

    3. If Ron can handle Francis and chi. Lam he will do fine with anthony

  5. Ron is there….was he omitted from the article on purpose?

  6. Don’t think Anthony really cares bout yelling at Ron Anthony will scold tvb for the cheap pay and poor working conditions as these article already says so

    1. Ron gets around 400k for a series and gets looked after by tvb so Anthony would not care less bout Ron if he complains about anything it will be about the pays and he already started

  7. Crazy, if I were a actor I would go to mainland too. 400,000 the whole 30 episodes. In china 400,000 multiply by 30. Filming 1 drama in china is like filming 30 dramas in tvb. Would you guys want to leave tvb for china if regular salary is 30 times more than normal salary?

    1. Going to mainland to film is tough, all decisions needs to be decided by yourself as well as finding other jobs is by yourself. as in tvb, work are given to their artists, so it is more stable. In mainland, if you are not popular, then it is difficult because as a freelance maybe you’ll get pay good once, but after you might not find other jobs, it is unstable

      1. It depends in the situation because if you get invited to mainland then everything is set for you at least for a particular role or if you signed a contract. But of course you need to get popular enough and get noticed in order to get that advantage. However,if you just blindly go there to try to seek opportunities yourself then of course it will be a lot harder. I remember Micheal Tong doing that and the struggles that he went through to find jobs. Luckily,he had some connections so friends helped him out so he was able to find some jobs. Even though he never played the leads in any dramas that I have seen but at least he was able to have a decent career in China.

Another thing about China that many do not like us the working conditions, Wayne claimed that that was one of the reasons he did not go to China and puts up with the crazy hours at TVB.

    2. To all, 1 question does tvb have more actors or. China mainland cause I have been thinking to if I should watch china dramas for the first time now. Tvb just not for me anymore. I want too see some new actors rather than same people every day. Is china dramas good? Anyone watches it, tell me pros and cons about china series. Just wondering if I should start watching china dramas?

      1. @lilly,
To answer your questions, of course China has way more actors and actresses than TvB. China is way bigger country and with such a big population and many want to become actors and actresses as well. I personally enjoy many China series but it depends on taste. I love ancient series and China makes a lot of good ones now as opposed to tvb. However, I have not seen a single modern China series that I like yet. One if the things about some China series is that they may get draggy, but it varies from series to series. The acting is of course above many actors and actresses from tvb because they are all trained and educated at performing arts universities before they start acting and act while they are still in school. I suggest you give China series a try because they are way above most of TVB’s productions these days.

      2. Pro: variety of actors and actresses, nice scenery, decent storyline here and there, nice costumes, no such thing as bad or terrible acting but no one stands out as great
Cons: slow pace, mediocre acting/one directional, too much romance, a lot of bad CGs, unrealistic characters, bad transitions between stories, recycled plots, aggressive sexual scenes compared to TVB
It doesn’t matter what series you watch the love story will somehow dominate. Typically it’s a love pentagon or hexagon not the typical TVB love triangle.

  8. Kent = playboy=rape Natalie = Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

    1. Too many men, too many women, too many relationships, where is the story?

      1. the story is that 3 grandpa’s fighting for power and girls.

      2. @cheesecake

More of fighting for powers, not ladies

      3. kiwi, you’re hilarious! I almost split my sides laughing!

      4. Too many old men. Not sexy, just ewwwwwww. At least more handsome old man. Suddenly Wayne is the bachelor one?

I maintain Kent Tong is not my idea of ratings grabber, more so whatever rape thing. And is TVB still into rapes and lesbian kisses as headlines?

    2. Agree. Wayne paired up with Natalie was weird enough because of the age, but now she’s pairing up with Kent… :/

      1. LOL @ the 3 gramps! Yeah it’s creepy to see them with the young women, however back in the days old men go after young women like its the norm, maybe they are trying to be realistic lol

      2. lol, yes Kent is even older than Wayne and i thought Wayne was already too old for her in Bullet Brain.

      3. Wayne with Natalie gives off a big brother/baby sister vibe. Kent with Natalie gives off a father/daughter vibe…

  9. Costumes of that era were such a weird unattractive mixture.

  10. Looking forward to Wayne and Jade’s story…and good to see Wayne playing a villain again!

    1. Love to see Wayne as a villain or semi-good semi-evil roles

    2. Yep, it has been a while to see him back to play in the villain role.

  11. All these old men paired with much younger actresses is making me puke >.<

    1. Well that was it was back in the days and some even do it niw. Don’t know if you know but Kent’s current wife is 23 years younger than him.

      1. i want to see beautiful couples, not old man-young woman on tv!

      2. No he is not a pedo. Steven Ma Jing Tao’s second/ current wife is 20-21 years younger than him too. I am sure there are other couples that have big age gaps too. However, it seems that is more acceptable for the guy to be older.

      3. @HeTieShou

Have you ever seen the mainland period era dramas, it’s like that and even with younger actresses. Back in the real time, it’s like that too, it’s very common, not weird

      4. @choco-bunny

Then you should stick with the lame idol dramas or those boring modern types

      5. Oops Sheldon, I touched your sore point by calling yr idol Wayne old didn’t I? But it’s a fact he’s old and it’s also a fact that you’re a jerk to tell others what to do! Just eff off and mind yr own biz!

      6. Jade Leung isn’t much younger than Wayne Lai. She is in her mid forties.

    2. All the new faces makes me puke. The younger artists can’t act.

    3. @choco-bunny
Why don’t you stop being disrespectful people?
The fact is you’re getting old too. No one likes a bad mouth

    4. As long as the girls can act well in order to fit with their partner then that’s fine. Hard to explain but if the girls can act mature then they won’t look awkward or disgusting with their older partners.

  12. I wonder if the girls are like me. When I was a young girl growing up watching Micheal Mui and Jimmy Au , I always have a crush on them , even til now lol. So it can be like humm dream come true to act with these oldies for the actresses, lol

    1. Yeah, but Michael Miu is still hot after so many years.
Can’t say the same for the ones in this series, or they were never hot.

  13. Anthony and Myolie, Kent and Natalie…give me the puke bucket now :/

  14. I’m watching this drama for Ron.. I like all of Ron hot headed roles especially Ron hot headed cop roles they re awesome

    1. Ron can play hot headed and adorable roles really well

    2. He’s doesn’t always act hot headed roles though. He does well as a sweet handsome guy too. Basically, I think he does pretty good in all his roles. He always has chemistry with whoever he’s paired with (male/female).

  15. Looks like Ron did keep fit. He looks a bit skinnier than before. Good for him, cause he needs it. Maybe he did it together with Ray since Ray/Kareena said he was building muscles during this time he has few jobs.

  16. wow… the gathering of old farts that should step aside for others…
