Cast Promotes “Brother’s Keeper”

The cast of TVB’s new television drama, Brother’s Keeper <巨輪>, attended a function to promote the drama’s upcoming premiere tomorrow. The 32-episode drama, which stars Ruco Chan (陳展鵬), Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣), Edwin Siu (蕭正楠), Kristal Tin (田蕊妮), Louis Yuen (阮兆祥), and Louise Lee (李司棋), is produced by Amy Wong (王心慰) and tells the story of two brothers growing up during the final years of colonial Hong Kong and Macau.

Edwin Gets New Endorsement Deal

Macau’s own Koi Kei Bakery, in which rumors say was the inspiration behind Edwin’s side-story in Brother’s Keeper, is a major sponsor for the drama. Edwin expressed that Brother’s Keeper had helped him earn and endorsement deal since 2004’s Kamboat Bakery. Edwin’s 2004 commercial was joked to be one of the reasons why Edwin was forced to leave Hong Kong for another career in mainland China.

“Yeah! That last time was Shuet Shuet Shuet [Kamboat Bakery] about 8 to 9 nine years ago. I think the manager who chose me to endorse their new product really has guts. It’s a new start [for me]. Since coming back [to Hong Kong] in 2008, I’ve been very happy.”

Asked if his endorsement money would go to his marriage funds, Edwin laughed, “It’s only enough to purchase a bed! I still need to work harder. Give me a few years first.”

Wong Jing Praises Edwin’s Acting

Currently shooting for Wong Jing’s (王晶) new television drama Across Heaven and Earth <縱橫天地>, Edwin is teaming up with Natalie Meng (孟瑶) as the series’ comedic couple. Edwin has earned the praise of Wong Jing, who compared Edwin to Stephen Chow (周星馳).

Edwin explained, “Jing Gor wanted us to be like Stephen Chow and Sandra Ng (吳君如) in [1992’s] All’s Well, Ends Well <家有囍事>.” Edwin also revealed that his character, the youngest son of the affluent Cho family, is introduced as a player; his first scene in the drama is one where Edwin is surrounded by four busty women shaking their heads at a party. Edwin laughed, “I was in the middle. Their long hair was like a car crash. It was unforgettable.”

Across Heaven and Earth, a China and Hong Kong co-production, is currently shooting in Hong Kong. The epic drama also stars Liza Wang (汪明荃), Hawick Lau (劉愷威), and Kenny Wong (黃德斌).

Mentioning that TVB was fined $900,000 HKD for violating the Broadcasting Ordinance by imposing unreasonable contract terms to their artists, Edwin expressed that he has heard of the issue. Though this requirement was never written into contracts, it became common understanding that signed artists can only speak in Mandarin when being interviewed by non-TVB stations, in fear of upsetting TVB.

“Actually, in many of the media interviews I have done in the past few years, most of the microphones handed to me were from mainland China, so it makes sense to speak in Mandarin. I agree with what Joey Yung (容祖兒) said. If it weren’t for those microphones, [my] Mandarin wouldn’t have improved so much, because there really aren’t many opportunities to speak in Mandarin.”

Linda Wears 90s Outfit

As a majority of the story in Brother’s Keeper will take place in the early to late 1990s, Linda appeared at the promotional event yesterday wearing a tight turtle neck sweater and high-waist jeans. Linda said she spent up to three hours looking for suitable attire, therefore missing the sudden announcement that the 90s theme for the function was canceled. Only Linda showed up at the function wearing 90s attire.

To see herself being the only cast dressed up, Linda said she felt slightly embarrassed.

As Hong Kong is currently in typhoon season, Linda’s job schedules suffered delay. “Originally I had to shoot Tiger Cubs 2 <飛虎II>, but that was canceled. I also have to shoot a skin care commercial tomorrow, but I haven’t been notified if that will be canceled or not, but I think it’ll be postponed.

Worried for everyone’s safety, Linda does not want a storm. “Some houses aren’t high-rise apartment buildings, so they may not be able to withstand the strong winds. I asked the night-watch at my building downstairs if it was necessary for me to put adhesive around the openings, because I live on a very high floor, but he said I didn’t need to.”

Edwin, however, joked he wanted the typhoon to stay around a little longer so more people would be forced to stay at home to watch Brother’s Keeper.

Brother’s Keeper will be premiering Monday, September 23, on TVB Jade.

  1. Wong jing’s praises means nothing. He’s a director associated with crass movies.

  2. Lol, that’s becos you’re comparing him with Jaynestars sexiest man alive 2011 and 2012 winner Ruco! He makes most other men look like a wimp. Love his Sam Sir character though he’s a man with flaws. His love for Rachel is very touching as in the hospital scene where he begs for her forgiveness. That must be one of his best scenes cos his voice just cracked with so much emotion as he looked at her with tears welling up in his eyes. There are several other emotional scenes which Ruco, just by the reddening of his eyes, makes you feel so much heartache for him, no need for hysterical crying or pulling a sad face. Anyone who doesnt want to miss this superb performance by Ruco shld watch BK! If tvb doesnt give him best actor, i dont see who else deserves it. Awesome actor, Ruco <3

    1. i so agree with you – i’ve seen ruco’s acting and it is Daaaaaa best!!!! but what drama are you talking about with rachel? who’s she?

  3. Linda’s so cute, no need to feel embarrassed, love your team spirit <3

  4. Ruco looks super handsome in the pic. Tbb’s having a headache in promoting Edwin with Ruco around. Ruco is too shiny.
As an advice to tbb, to be realistic for the sake of v. rating, promote Ruco. Quality and talents can’t be gained by promoting.

    1. agree. don’t get why tvb still not promoting ruco when he’s evidently a great shining artiste and evidently had huge fanbase who admire his talent based on the comments here? if i’m tvb better ruco than edwin, like most of the commenters here also think 🙂

    2. IKR. Edwin’s current standard is only good for second or third male lead at best. He tends to overact all the time, not like ruco who’s so good with subtle touches like using his eyes to speak volumes more than words. In the discussion forums, the hot topic now is how ruco stole episode 1 with that linda scene despite having only a few minutes and few lines.

      1. but its evident tvb is in love with edwin and not ruco. edwin is often in grand productions and in great way to care 2, many complaint that edwin has too much screentime over alex fong. when kenneth turns down wong jing’s series because he’s handpicked by jackie chan to star in his new movie, tvb picked edwin to fill in kenneth’s void.

      2. @sel_fi_wu Don’t know what Tvb is thinking. They already have a diamond but they choose a piece of glass instead.

      3. @sel_fi_wu I honestly think edwin’s acting was bad and irritating in AGWTC2. The love triangle was unnecessary and slowed down the pace and Edwin had too much screen time doing nothing but flitting between Aimee and Christine. His role in BB wasn’t exactly difficult and challeging either. Tvb must be trying to make up to him for those lost years. I hate how Tvb always makes use of ruco to promote the lesser known cast.

  5. Decided to do some research and i found out that Ruco, Edwin & Kristal are actually all born in the same year, 1977!!!! :O

    1. they’re all 35?

in my opinion, i thought their age was ranked like this (from eldest to youngest): kristal, ruco then edwin.

I think edwinn’s a bit like oscar leung – they both dont age
