Joe Ma Supports Linda Chung as This Year’s TV Queen
Joe Ma (馬德鐘) already knows his pick for this year’s TV Queen, pledging his support for Tiger Cubs 2 <飛虎II> co-star Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣). Currently on a per-series contract with TVB, Joe revealed his future plans with the company, and is looking forward to a nice, relaxing break after completing the anticipated police drama.
On September 11, Joe was seen filming an explosive action scene for Tiger Cubs 2 along with Him Law (羅仲謙), Mandy Wong (黃智雯), and Matthew Ko (高鈞賢). The group defended a SDU (Special Duties Unit) base against a terrorist attack, though not before Matthew’s character sustained injuries and fell onto the ground.
Although the production is behind schedule due to bad weather and faces the risk of going over budget, the cast and crew has worked diligently and an end is in sight. Earlier, Joe’s wife Karen Cheung (張筱蘭) vented her frustrations about Joe’s long work hours on Weibo, saying that she has waited and waited but Joe probably will not come home for dinner. Reporters commented that Karen will surely be the happiest when filming finally wraps. Hearing this, Joe said, “It’s okay, [she] knows that filming is tough. The happiest person would probably be me. I will take a small break [afterwards] before returning to mainland to film a new series. I will film for TVB again in the middle of next year at the earliest.”
Speaking about his co-star Linda Chung, Joe feels that Linda has a very good chance at winning Best Actress at this year’s TVB Anniversary Awards. He even jokingly vowed to give up his life to protect the future TV Queen, making a witty reference to an upcoming Tiger Cubs 2 scene in which he must rescue Linda. “It’s too soon to be discussing TV Queen. I wish her good luck in advance. I feel like she will definitely win it. She is already favored to win even though Brother’s Keeper <巨輪> has not even aired. Such a strong momentum! I will protect the TV Queen at all costs, even if I have to sacrifice myself!”

Kate takes on sexy roles, while Linda takes on innocent roles. They are both just acting out certain roles given to them. At the very least, Kate’s roles can be said to be a bit daring. Linda (and her roles) is just BORING.

Tavia Yeung is deserving! At least when she cries there are actually tears. Not the best, but definitely better than Myolie and Linda.
Kate’s role as Pat was well played with the occasional typical flaws and lack of character development but nonetheless it was still her best role to date. As for Linda, her best and only good role was in A Journey Called Life. The rest aren’t memorable.
Neither are up to the par yet imo. WHen I think of Kate I think of looks over acting. Every role she plays (which is mainly policewoman roles )
Her drug addict role was definitely something different which was nice, but I have to agree her emotions were over the top in some scenes which I personally found unconvincing. I only role that I truly thought she did brilliantly well was her role in ‘On The First Beat’. She totally looked and acted her role convincingly. All her roles after were all so so to me. She’s adopted the same acting and type of girly sassy/sexy look for most of her roles.
As for Linda, have to wait and see how she’s going to do for Brother’s keeper and her upcoming series. But as of now, cant imagine she’d take home a BA with her level of acting now imo. Hoping she’ll wow the audience -but even so, goodluck with competing against the other actresses.

“Triumph in the Skies 2” received the most marketing blitz. Francis Ng deserves a nomination, but that will likely not happen.

honestly, i think KM’s acting is not up to par for TV king, he’s too wooden, cannot act with his eyes and always has only one expression. He was supposed to be a villain in that sentinel series but i found him quite comical especially when he scowls like a spoilt brat whenever he’s angry or hatching some evil scheme. His character in On Call is not challenging at all, acting as the good guy is always easy, people like you for the character you portray.
Not much talk because the dramas and performances have been lacklustre this year. No hot favourite to win and I’m not holding out hope that the upcoming anniversary series will have amazing performances either.
Maybe Joey Meng ? I feel Linda is still not there yet. She is needs a lot of improvement.
Joey Meng would make a great candidate. Doubt TVB will give it to her though. But whoever wins, there will be complains every where anyway.

That’s because all most of the performances (except Joey Meng’s) from both actors and actresses were so underwhelming, I don’t think ppl actually care lol.
But Francis has to at least get a nomination… Otherwise, who else are they going to use to make up the numbers? Trying to find 10 nominees is going to be no easy task, considering the crapfest they’re having (so far) this year.

Am I the only one who doesn’t think Linda has the baby face? I must admit, she look sweet and gentle, but doesn’t come off as baby. I remember watching her debut in VOH and find her look rather mature for her age back then. I actually think they think they will look fine in the picture.
she’s not a versatile actress, can only portray selected roles. although, she have the best crying scenes among the fadans. charmaine sheh, we need you back.
funny how back in forensic heroes and moonlight days i literally LOL every time Linda cried in those two dramas.
i never ever think linda was good in crying scenes at all. didn’t understand how her fans kept bragging about the fact and even proud of the fact that linda was the best “cryer” compare to other fadans. well at least up til l’escargot, i think linda’s crying scenes in that series was pretty good, very convincing to me. and her acting has improve over the years, which’s a good thing.
anyway, talking about crying scenes, i think Elena Kong is the best at tvb, she really knows how to pull her emotion all together and gives a good cry without looking trying too hard.
Too bad elena kong is considered “old” to be promoted. Is it bad that I prefer supporting actresses more than lead actresses? Tvb seems to be ONLY promoting actresses who can’t even speak proper canto. So frustrating watching it. but I do think that Linda’s crying scenes are good. Tavia isn’t the best in crying but of course is much better in other aspects.
@Sophia: well, i know that elena kong is considered old and all, but my point is when it comes to crying this woman is the best at tvb atm lol.

Looks like this year TV Queen is between Linda and Myolie because TVB put both of their drama in the November…so we can see that TVB is promoting those two this year…

Based on marketing blitz, I think Kenneth Ma has a good chance at TV King this year. He is appearing in a Jackie Chan movie, a sign that TVB is ready to elevate his status by giving him TV King and increasing his fees more, which would also benefit the company.
I like Ruco too, but based on the past, TVB would only give their top awards when an actor has reached a certain “status”. Kenneth currently ranks higher in TVB’s status than Ruco.
As for TV Queen, it’s still up in the air now. Eager to see the reception towards “Brother’s Keeper”.
I personally like Ruco much much more that Kenneth Ma…but I can see that TVB is promoting Kenneth this year…

Ruco’s a much better actor than KM, no doubts about that, his acting is miles ahead. Unfortunately, as jayne had pointed out, there’s ranking status at tvb. the tv king award is not given based on merit though tvb wld have us believe that. deserving people don’t always win, the favourites do. it’s an unfair world we live in.

TVB has been using the Best Actor/ Best Actress awards to increase the commercial market value of its artists for years, which is why some artists have called it an “awards game” in the past.
Given the ambitious plans of TVB’s mainland joint venture, TVBC, the push is to raise the profile of their artists in mainland and place them in TVBC productions.
A Change of Heart didn’t get really good ratings and ratings are an important factor. I think Joey might get nominated for Inbound Troubles instead which had higher ratings and buzz, but her character in that was not really memorable.
Due to Triumph’s high ratings, I think Myolie has a chance for the female character award.
@kk – I remembered reading an article whereby Kenneth Ma said that the TV king award will be given to him, so chances of him getting the award is probably 99% (based on what he said).

Myolie’s last series for the year is Triumph In The Skies 2 which I doubt she would win. It’s really on Linda, Fala and Kate. I’m thinking Moses may take home the award this year. Kenneth is on par with Lawrence in the series, I don’t see it happening for him especially on a role he already did last year.
I think they were originally going for Linda vs Fala this year for TV queen, but Fala didn’t have great feedback for Triumph 2 and she’s not signed to TVB anymore. Now, it’s more likely that they’re going for Linda vs Kate and that’s why they squeezed in My Prime Lady to air right before the awards. It’s still too early to judge since their series haven’t aired yet.
I personally think Linda is not a TV Queen yet.

I personally feel that Joe Ma’s wife needs to tone it down a little. As the other half of a man who is in the entertainment industry, shouldn’t she already know this would happen? Shoots could be delayed over weather and other obstructions and as a responsible actor, Joe obliged to shooting longer hours thus being unable to go home for dinner. I would have thought as a wife of an actor, she could at least think about the whiplash before posting things online.

Esther Kwan in , anybody? Solid performance! Though the storyline is going a bit haywire… Esther is still hands-down the most entitled tv queen for this year. But doubt so, she’s not really into tv industry already.

honestly, it’s much easier to judge bad acting than good acting. Good acting is very subjective, one man’s meat is another’s poison whereas it’s pretty obvious if an actor/actress cannot act. Like i don’t agree with your choice of Sheren or Charmaine but doesn’t mean you’re wrong.
Kenneth Ma will have a good chance to get Best Actor award this year. Ruco Chan has not got any awards yet, how can he get Best Actor award no matter how good he acts as per TVB’s traditions?
As for Best Actress, Linda Chung and Kate Tsui will highly be promoted by TVB this year, depending on their performances: “Tiger Cubs 2” and “Brother Keeper” for Linda Chung, and “My Prime Lady” for Kate Tsui.
so unfair this distribution of pork thingy. KM is a very wooden one dimensional actor whose idea of playing a villain is to scowl like a spoilt brat all the time and stare with big eyes; when he plays the good guy, he always tries to charm with puppy-dog eyes.
I agree. I have never liked Kenneth Ma much as an actor. Like you said his emotional scenes are the same (the puppy-dog eyes, frowning and speaking with a low and soft voice).
As for his villain roles I didn’t think he was convincing either.
Among the actors of “the younger generation” I think Bosco Wong and Ruco Chan are the most versatile.
I definitely agree, he’s not very consistent either. I didn’t think his role in THC was what made the series such a hit, it was the message behind the plot that made it meaningful not necessarily the characters which in my opinion many people overlooked that part.
Bosco and Ruco are about the current leading actors that so far hasn’t been disappointing, they both player the most variety of roles and have been involved in some good productions. Somehow I think Moses will take home the award.

Oh right he won for HOG I believe but I still think they’re aiming for him to win. They don’t give out actors who had been there for only less than 10 years, Ruco gets a nomination but he’s not winning. That does look promising but I have to see the series befor I judge. Triumph 2 looked great but it was a flop in my opinion besides the star studded cast.

How about Raymond Wong? I think he is good in ‘A slow boat home’. He is better than Kenneth Ma. Totally agreed that KM cannot act. I cannot stand his ‘puppy doggie’ eyes.
