Charmaine Sheh Talks“Story of Yanxi Palace” Sequel

The popularity behind the hit Chinese period drama Story of Yanxi Palace <延禧攻略> has inspired producer Yu Zheng (于正) to start work on a sequel. The cast of Yanxi Palace shot to overnight fame, and Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼) has yet another breakout drama to put in her star-studded resume.

Speaking with the Hong Kong press on Wednesday, Charmaine was drilled with questions about the Yanxi Palace sequel, which is rumored to be set in modern times. She said, “I have heard about the idea of a sequel, but nothing has been officially confirmed.”

Charmaine added that, should the sequel be officially confirmed, she would love to return with the original cast. “I do hope we’ll get together again. Maybe the same cast but with a different story, with different characters.” Asking on what kind of role she would like to do, she said, “I hope it’ll be different from my last one. A slightly more complicated character. My mother wouldn’t want me to play a good guy. She doesn’t like to watch me getting bullied on screen.” Charmaine shared that her mother would never visit her on set, as she doesn’t like to watch her daughter suffering from work.

  1. Though I’m a fan of Charmaine, I actually enjoyed “Ruyi’s Royal Love in the Palace” more compared to “Story of Yanxi Palace”, which was aired first. Had it been the other way around, I doubt I would watch Yanxi. But any sequel would definitely be way more watchable than TVB’s crappy series at the moment. Look at Deep In The Realm of Conscience and Another Era.

    1. @lam86 Apparently you can’t read. Read my sentence carefully again before venting – “… TVB’s crappy series at the moment”.

    2. @sol365 I actually enjoyed Deep In The Realm of Conscience. I mean it doesn’t come close to the original Beyond The Realm of Conscience buuut it has some nice qualities. Even though it seemed more like a Forensic Heroes + Can’t Buy Me Love + Beyond The Realm of Conscience hybrid story, there are memorable moments and some fantastic scenes
