Daniel Wu Juggles Career and Family
Since moving to San Francisco, Daniel Wu (吳彥祖) has been busy managing his career while looking after his family. But the 44-year-old actor still flies to Hong Kong to make special appearances, such as the Hong Kong Film Awards earlier.
Reunited with Gen-X Cops Cast
During the Hong Kong Films Awards, Daniel took the stage with fellow cast actors from popular movie, Gen-X Cops <特警新人類> including Nicolas Tse (謝霆鋒), Stephen Fung (馮德倫), and Sam Lee (李燦森). Although the movie was filmed 20 years ago, the actors developed a close friendship that endured through time. While the four actors felt nostalgic, Daniel teased the audience and asked who wants to watch another sequel of the movie. Seeing the four actors reunite on stage, the audience erupted with cheers.
Backstage, Daniel shared that he had a great time at the HKFA and was able to catch up with close friends such as Ekin Cheng (鄭伊健),Jordan Chan (陳小春), and Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅). However, just as the HKFA came to an end, Daniel promptly returned back to San Francisco to take care of his family.
Wanted to Raise Daughter in USA
Even as an international star, Daniel is committed to his family. Daniel rushed back to the United States to take his daughter, Raven, to school and care for his elderly father. Sharing his current life, Daniel said, “My daughter is six years old and I only want her to grow up healthy and happy. I regretted that I wasn’t able to learn Chinese myself, so I send her to study [Chinese]. I don’t want her to have regrets in the future.”

Did he meant reading/writing Chinese? I thought he speaks Chinese, Canto only maybe?
It’s smart to be bilingual. I find English, Mandarin, and Spanish are great pluses. Wish I was more studious when younger to learn reading Chinese. Ugh hindsight 20/20 xD
I sorta kinda enjoy just a little of Into the Badland. I keep watching to support him really bc he’s Asian. Other than that, stories and fights are meh. And corny at times. BUT am glad to see this type of Asian genre and representation “making it” or at least getting a foot in the Western-ish arena even if it’s only 3 seasons. Add oil!
@jjwong He should be talking about reading+writing Chinese. His family speaks Mandarin I believe (hence Wu instead of Ng as his last name). Which is why his Cantonese has an accent cause he also speaks English fluently

Most kids who got sent to chinese school here grew up still not knowing how to read and write it when they leave anyway.Best way to learn is still to use it in practice in real life.
I can understand why they would want their child to understand the culture properly. Its just, learning another language, when you dont use it in everyday life is not that easy. As a kid, I didnt appreciate having to spend precious weekend time learning something I didnt need.
However Im glad that I did go through it now looking back as an adult, it taught me the basics. I had to pursue the learning myself afterwards to get better at it. Most people forget if they dont, like most my brothers and sisters.
Too bad Daniel forgot his lines at the award presentation, it was a good entry and everyone was psyched about the Gen-X Cops guys back together. But the whole presentation was filled with awkward silences due to Daniel missing his lines and cues but Sam Lee saved it in the end for them.
Sam Lee did well for himself in that era. At that time, girls where in love with good looking guys that came back from USA that speaks fluent English.
