Rising Star Jim Liu Not Intimidated by Daniel Wu and Michelle Yeoh in “American Born Chinese”

Taiwanese rising star Jim Liu (劉敬) makes his debut in Hollywood in the upcoming Disney+ series American Born Chinese. While Jim has the opportunity to work with Hollywood’s biggest Asian stars including Michelle Yeoh (楊紫瓊), Ke Huy Quan (關繼威) and Daniel Wu (吴彦祖), Jim reveals that he was not nervous and made a lot of friends in the United States.

The 19-year-old actor is known for playing Ruby Lin’s son in Light the Night <華燈初上> before auditioning for his role in American Born Chinese. Jim is well-prepared for the action-oriented series due to his Taekwondo training during his childhood and even earning his third Dan black belt.

Jim is fluent in English and is surprised upon meeting his co-stars. However, Jim confesses that he doesn’t feel intimidated after his experience working with his co-stars in Light the Night.

In American Born Chinese, Jim plays a transfer student with a secret identity: he is Monkey King Sun Wukong’s (Daniel Wu) son. Although Jim and Daniel have numerous fight scenes in the series, the two actors have a close friendship outside of filming. The two are big fans of the NBA and bond over their shared interest.

Jim also shares that when he first met Michelle Yeoh, he knew that she was a big star and the two would often chat in Chinese and English. Jim reveals that Michelle has a warm personality and she would take the initiative to invite him for dinner. Later when Michelle and Ke Huy Quan won Oscars, Jim was overjoyed by their accomplishment

As there were many other young actors in the series, Jim was able to make friends within two weeks of filming. Jim settled so quickly in Hollywood that his accompanying agents flew back to Taiwan without a worry.
