Popular Korean Celebrities Joining the Military in 2022

Last year, South Korea amended the Military Service Act to allow K-pop artistes with outstanding contributions to postpone their two years of military service until the age of 30. While a handful of K-pop idols made use of the deferral process, the following idols inevitably have to enlist this year and will put their careers on a temporary pause.

BTS

BTS oldest member Jin will be turning 30 years old this year and will not be able to defer his enlistment any further. Expecting the enlistment day to come, Jin previously shared that he would be proud to serve his country and would fulfill his duty when he is called for enlistment.

Many industry insiders expect all seven members of the BTS are expected to enlist together by mid-2022 and speculate that the group will be pre-recording a new album before their enlistment. This may bring some comfort to fans as it may short the gap in the group’s career to just one year.

P.O

Boy group Block B member P.O turned 28 years old in 2021 and publicly submitted his request to postpone his military service until December 2021.  The idol is currently wrapping up his project and will be enlisting in 2022 to fulfill his civil duties.

Song Kang

The popular actor is currently turning heads for his role in romcom Forecasting Love and Weather and this drama might be his last drama before his enlistment. At the age of 28 years-old, Song Kang is at the maximum age and must join the military before the end of the year.

Nam Joo Hyuk

South Korean heartthrob Nam Joo Hyuk is turning 28 years old this year and will be getting ready for his enlistment.  Before the actor begins his service, fans can catch Nam Joo Hyul’s appearance in the currently airing coming of age drama Twenty-Five Twenty-One and upcoming drama Here.
