Zhao Lusi Terminates Contract Without Penalty

In recent years, Chinese actress Rosy Zhao Lusi (趙露思) has seen her popularity soar, solidifying her status as the new Ratings Queen through hit dramas such as Hidden Love <偷偷藏不住>and Love’s Ambition <許我耀眼>. Last year, while filming Almost Lover <戀人>, she was hospitalized due to illness. It was revealed that she had fallen out with her agency, Galaxy Cool Entertainment.

In August, Zhao Lusi publicly accused the agency on Weibo, alleging the company forced her to pay compensation for cancelled endorsement deals due to illness and even withdrew 2.05 million Chinese yuan from her account without permission. Furious, she declared she would quit and gained massive support from fans. At the time, Galaxy Cool Entertainment responded by saying it was open to communication anytime but also warned the actress to be cautious with her words.

It appeared Zhao Lusi has finally broken free by successfully terminating her contract. It was also shocking that she was successful at waiving her massive 400-million-Chinese-yuan penalty fee.

According to Chinese media, Zhao Lusi was Galaxy Cool Entertainment’s only stable source of income, contributing to nearly 80 percent of the company’s revenue. To keep her from leaving, the company originally imposed an enormous termination penalty clause. However, Alibaba’s Hujing Digital Media Group stepped in and acquired Galaxy Cool Entertainment, signing Zhao Lusi to a five-year contract. As part of the deal, she will mentor new artistes for two years, effectively achieving a zero-cost transfer.

Meanwhile, Zhao Lusi’s promotional clips started appearing on Alibaba Pictures’ headquarters’ advertising screens, symbolizing her official status as Alibaba’s next major leading actress. Sources reveal Hujing has already lined up new projects for Zhao Lusi. Her first work will be a historical drama co-starring Tian Xuning (田栩寧), the lead actor of Revenged Love <逆愛>. Her second project will reportedly be a suspense drama.

Fans are celebrating online commenting, “Finally free again!” and “Can’t wait for her new dramas!”
