Raymond Lam Impersonator Makes Big Bucks in China

Above: Who is the real Raymond Lam?

Raymond Lam (林峯) is so popular in China that even his look-alike is in hot demand. The impersonator recently attracted media attention when he began making frequent stage appearances in Mainland, shamelessly used Raymond’s name to promote his performances.

Xu HaohangLittle is known about the look-alike, Xu Haohang (許豪航), other than his resemblance to the TVB artist. On social media Weibo, he lists his current location as Guangzhou and claims to be a graduate of the Xinghai Conservatory of Music. Xu has been making appearances at local shopping malls and night clubs, performing Raymond’s hit songs while hiding behind a pair of sunglasses. Closely imitating Raymond’s hairstyles and outfits from his past concert tours, Xu quickly gained his own loyal following: he has already amassed over 17,000 fans on Weibo to-date.

Taking pride in his work, Xu posted many photos from his various performances online, including close-up shots of his transformation backstage. Scheduled to perform a solo set in Qingyuan city, event promoters have been distributing flyers featuring Xu’s image along with the name “Raymond Lam” in large font. Although the poster does indicate in smaller print that the performance will only be an impersonation, many Raymond fans are calling this a scam and have criticized Xu online over his actions.

Raymond’s manager, Candy, is aware of the situation and is currently looking into possible legal action. “I don’t know if I can stop [Xu] from continuing his act, because Raymond’s name [Lam Fung] is also a stage name. I will discuss with [TVB] and see if we will pursue legal action!” Raymond feels helpless, saying that it will be difficult to press charges in Mainland. He is worried that his fans may fall for the scam, and warns everyone to be extra cautious.

In response to fans’ attack, Xu posted on Weibo on March 15 explaining that he is only doing this out of love for his idol. “I really admire LF [Lam Fung] and his songs. To be able to earn recognition through his music not only gives me a sense of satisfaction, it is also a way for me to pay tribute to LF.”

    1. Jayne, very very inaccurate. I may not have the data but what about Michael Jackson?! Raymond may be the least impersonated. For HK, jacky Cheung, leslie cheung, anita mui

      1. wong cho lam , macbao, nat chan & johnson lee did impersonate LF before. But this impersonator is pretty good . good luck to this guy. It is a compliment

  1. that’s one dedicated fan but no. It’s kinda scary.

  2. OMG! He even got the eye and the pose right!

But this is normal. A lot of impersonators out there, as long as not cheating fans.

  3. That’s the sign that Raymond has reach another stage of success. Only famous people have people impersonating them.

    1. Or infamous people with good quirks? If he doesn’t have any quirks it will be difficult to impersonate.

      1. Where’s that photo of LF picking his nose while others are eating? haha 🙂

      2. Impersonators have tons of material (lying, photo scandal, crying, love declaration x 7, etc.) to work with. Add an element of comedy to it and it’s gold.

  4. Saw Xu’s performance recorded in a bar, he really copied all actions. The clothes, look, hairdo, dance moves, singing and even the talks. He must watch the DVD ton of times.

However since he impersonated with payment, it can’t be called a fan’s action.

    1. “However since he impersonated with payment, it can’t be called a fan’s action”

this is very true what you said,he is just riding on someone’s fame to earn his money,no style.

  5. Wonder if this impersonator used the same plastic surgeon as Raymond. Or Raymond lam copied xu’s natural look since Raymond has gone through so much plastic surgery himself.

    1. He should use his initial rather usang lam fung, posible he wil be prosecuted

  6. Seriously, China has built a very bad name for itself. Anything to do with it, we now associate it as fake, not real. They should look at their assets, talents etc., they are no where backwards than their counter parts. I just hope they keep their spirits high and produce good works like any other countries. Then, they will gain our respect.

    1. but the korean are known to have fake face but somehow they still able earn respect from fangirls

  7. exactly serious that pic of the other person looks weird
and it looks sooooooo fake………….i wouldn’t that would be raymond lam???????????????NO of course that person is fake and not realllll at a lllllll

  8. IDK what to say, but this is really creepy. I don’t think that is consider as fan action, cus he is earning money by using Raymond Lam name ;o

    1. Agreed! Just ignore the guy, the more publicity, the better for him! Let him fade into the sunset when no ones cares to write or comment about his actions!

Can’t wait for the broadcast of LF’s next TV series!
      LF Love FUNG! ❤️

  9. Dont ever forget that China is the “heaven for Immitation”!!!!

    1. artist impersonation are quite common in the west ..we see artists mimic elton john, abba , michael jackson ,britney, mick jagger, michel jackson ,madonna ,george michael, lady gaga in national tv

  10. Haha… Anyone interested to impersonate Jackie Chan in concert??

  11. Impersonate jackie chan should be hard.just add a big nose and act pervert

  12. i was thinking whol is that old guy in the magazine. i thought ommg lf aging so fast but then i was like …wth!

  13. I’ve seen the clips of the imitator. Damn, so real. I find it quite funny and cool. What are u whining about? There are tons of others who imitates idols.. Its not the first time. But this guy takes it to the next level lol!

  14. btw in the clips, is it his real voice or is it lip syncing? It sounds like LF real voice. Too good to be true?

    1. Which clip? If you mention of the one on Ytb then it’s LF’s voice. There is a clip of Xu sang but he lip-synced in parts.

      1. His voice does resemble LF and he really impersonate all LF actions – the actions when he sing, asking the audience to sing at the same part, ended the line with yeah etc

I’m wondering why is he speaking in Cantonese in mainland china, thought the people there couldn’t understand.

      2. Looking at the clip, I’m surprised to see that Xu is so popular, the funny part is lots of “fans” (Xu’s fans or LF’s fans?) wanted his photo so badly. But if it’s Xu’s voice, then I have to say his singing is not bad at all, esp the first Cantonese song.

      3. Tat’s the clip I said. He lip-synced in OMT. He really tried hard to impersonate, copy every single actions.

  15. This fake LF has a strong voice with resembles of LF

  16. I don’t think the impersonator looks anything like Raymond Lam. If you just show me a pic of that guy I would never have associated him with Raymond. I’m sure there are better impersonators out there.

  17. the irony is Raymond Lam had plastic surgery to look like this impersonator
