Gabriel Harrison Bravely Faces Wife’s Passing

Gabriel Harrison’s beloved wife, Effie Mok (莫家慈), succumbed to acute liver failure and passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025. Gabriel posted a tribute mourning her loss two days later, revealing that she “left peacefully, without pain.” He also expressed gratitude to all the friends who had offered help, saying, “In her life, she was fortunate enough to feel everyone’s love and care. That was the most precious gift in her life. Now, she can finally let go of all her pain and troubles, and find eternal peace.”

Having Depression is Normal”

After staying out of the public eye for some time, Gabriel appeared on March 6 for a charity event he had earlier accepted. He shared, “The last time I came back, I met with a pastor. I also saw my cousin, Flora Chan (陳慧珊), and we arranged to meet at the place where my wife and I got married. The pastor said that when you’ve been with your partner for so many years, having depression is very normal. It just depends on how long it lasts… Some people may not understand, but I will explain it to everyone.”

Her Smile is His Greatest Comfort

When asked whether he had dreamed of his wife, Gabriel shared that he almost sees her standing beside him every night, smiling, which brings him comfort, and still talks to her, telling her that he loves her very much.

Although Effie’s death made Gabriel feel though all the color had been drained from his life, and every morning was like groping through darkness, he has gradually learned to stand up again and continue walking his own path throughout countless encouragement from friends, as he did not want everyone to worry too much about him, and hopes to return to work as soon as possible.

Taking On Villain Roles and Short Dramas

Earlier, Gabriel filmed a short drama in mainland China, which opened his eyes to a new kind of production:

A micro-drama is about one minute per episode — 89 episodes in total. I played the main male villain. It had a bit of a time-travel element, which was quite interesting. The filming was completed in just a few days, but I still have to come back to do dubbing because there will be an overseas Cantonese version. Actually, I think playing villains is more fun. The producer cast me in this role because he had seen me play a bad guy in Detective Investigation Files <刑偵>, and felt I could portray an evil soul — someone who travels through time and controls his descendants to do bad things. He thought I could handle the split nature of the character, so he approached me,”

Gabriel Harrison met Effie Mok while they were working in Beijing in 2012, and later held their wedding in 2017. Gabriel once admitted that he had been a wild playboy in his younger days, but after meeting his wife – whom he said was “the most precious gift of my life”, he changed into a devoted and caring husband.
