Nancy Wu Supports Flora Chan’s New Show, Aims to Set an Example for New Generations

Nancy Wu (胡定欣) and Mandy Wong (黃智雯) were among some of the TVB artistes who crossed the TV border to support Flora Chan’s (陳慧珊) new documentary drama program After School <放學後>, which will be aired on HK Open TV. Nancy reassured the press that supporting artistes from other TV stations aren’t a big deal, and not as complicated as the media like to make it seem. “I am here just to support Flora. She spent the last few years making this show, so I have to support it. She took great care of me when I first debuted in the industry.”

Nancy and Flora met through the TVB drama Triumph in the Skies <衝上雲霄>, Nancy’s debut drama. “She played my sister-in-law, my first family member in the industry,” Nancy said with a laugh. “During the period she stopped acting, she dedicated herself to a professional degree on education. I find this to be a very meaningful program. I hope it helps other parents how to raise and educate the next generation.”

Asking if Nancy is interested in being a parent herself, she said, “I need to find a man first! But I do think that, with my identity as an artiste, I also have an influence over the next generation. It makes me think that I also share this mission with the parents. Although I may just be an actress, my performances are being watched by the next generation. It’s just like how when I was younger, my idols had great influence over me. So that’s why it’s important that I have to be my best self and set good examples.”

Nancy’s latest TVB drama, Justice Bao: The First Year <包青天再起風雲>, earned less than stellar reviews from netizens during its run. Before the final episode aired on August 30th, some netizens said they would boycott it. Nancy said, “I think it’s good to garner such strong reactions online. That means they are watching it. I’m both happy and surprised. When we were shooting it, we intended to leave an open ending for a sequel. Although we don’t know if that would come true, the final episode is intended to start a new story. (Why do you think that the netizens don’t want to watch the final episode?) As an actress I don’t even know. But it’s good to have people talk about it.”
