Who else was there to give the male award to?………..Raymond was probably one of the only few male artist there that could carry a bit of a tune………the rest are garbage.

He kind of won the award by default……..no big deal.

TVB JSG Golden Awards is dead long time ago, wouldn’t be surprise if they cancel it in the upcoming years… it lacks singer always the same winner every year the EEG artist team… sad to see the dominating award show from the 80 and 90’s turned into something ridiculous. As usual some awards are legit some are not.

You can’t blame one song for the failure of cantopop.

I really like how Joanne Lam reasons why she think cantopop is going downhill.

But I think with Alfred Hui and Hubert Wu, it may revive since they are popular with younger generations..

I agree….and for TVB to roll out the popular vote thing on JSG this year as if to make it more credible or something is utterly ridiculous. To me, that’s TVB’s way of deflecting criticism of the show — hey, if people complain about the results, they can always say that’s the way audiences voted and so it reflects public opinion, when we all know that’s not truly the case. Honestly, the voting thing is stupid when it’s not an even playing field , since more than half of the entire HK music industry was not even allowed to compete.

Definitely glad I gave up on JSG more than a decade ago!

Even Eason is joining,do you think he has enough fans to win raymond? With his **** look and arrogant attitude, dun dream that he can win it. So its ok joey and raymond to won it. Unless its alfred hui then different which is still a newbie.

Dont always compare with the past. In the past there is no smartphone or even digital camera. The environment can pretty much affect the life of people. So no point comparing it. The industry is never die. The life of current century is definitely better than the life of 80s and 90s.

        HeShouWu,
Um, You do recognize that it was TANG CHI WAI who composed the song “Chok” right? Tang Chi Wai who also wrote many numerous songs for TVB right?

Tang Chi Wai’s reponse to HK viewers:
” CHOK was a Gold Song? “I know when Raymond got the award, I was also like: ‘Huh? It’s really him?’ But in fact, he did win the votes. He really did win. Without the Big 4 singers, what songs are left? Raymond got the Asia-Pacific Male Singer award, you all wondered if that’s a mistake, but you should watch clearly when he goes to China for functions, there are thousands and thousands of people surrounding him. He really is popular. One year many people were talking about karaoke songs. Ah Fung (Raymond) launched a few fast and trendy dance songs, like Chok. Aiya, but then you all go and criticized that Chok is a song? Sometimes I feel the people of HK are quite contradictory.”

utterly disappointed this year….haven’t been satisfied in the past few years, but this year…why did they give out 20 awards and take out the other awards? the awards kept going to the same people, i felt sorry for anyone that wasn’t sitting in the first row! they weren’t even acknowledged and i know many of them have their good songs too. ugh, so stupid. i don’t have expectations anymore for JSG, but i do hope that next year when any singer from any record label can attend, that the awards will be more evenly distributed.

Well, the way I see it…unless TVB lifts all those restrictions in their singers’ contracts (which probably will never happen given how TVB operates), this is probably the way JSG will be for years to come, since the other record companies don’t show signs of budging on that piece. Such a shame at what JSG has become, especially considering its rich history in the 80s and 90s. Sad….

Dont be like those ignorant who only knows how to compare with the 80s and 90s.Those era had nothing. If you wanna succeed, then better either be a singer or actor. But now era has changed. You dont need to be singer or actor to be a millionaire as long as u have the brain enough. And also the emergence of internet. So many people might not choosing actor or singer as their career. But last time you can observe so many talented singer world wide. Even those oldies english songs are nicer to hear.Somemore the cantanose singers just from the hong kong 7 million citizens. So dont be ignorant to compare with the 80s or 90s. Even LF also dont put much time on singing nowadays and more on acting because era has changed. Too many other ways to earn money and be successful. 80s 90s jobs like system analyst, computer engineering course, not even existed! Grow up ur brain and move on!

Raymond, There were computer programmers and system analysts in the 80s and 90s. You sound like a young one that has no perspective of history. The 80s/90s were the golden age of Cantopop for a reason. These awards were once fought over bitterly by real singers. Now it is just given out to any singer/actor that has a contract with TVB. You said times has changed? How has it changed? People stopped appreciating good music and want actors to be voted as best singers?

Why is Joey Yung have always win Most Popular Female? This is her 9th awards. Is she really that special? Anyway I don’t care about her because I don’t listen her music & she’s not my idol.

    • Bubblez replied:

Joey Yung probably won for her dedication to sing even when she was ill and had a hoarse voice. But because she didn’t want her fans to ‘waste’ their money, she went on and performed even though she wasn’t fitted for that day. I was also told that she held consecutive concerts as well. By doing so, she won recognition from the hk industry and fans were grateful. Plus, with her singing THC 2 song probably helped as well.

But this type of scenario is rare. There are some singers out there who will cancel on the day of the concert, said that they would reschedule but end up canceling the whole thing when their fans purchased their tickets..

Its the votes. There are lots of Joey fans…. and there is NO CHANCE for other people to get the award, maybe Ivana but thats it. I wish Joey could stop accepting this award and give the award to someone ELSE for chance, like Anita did back in the day.

      • YanYanKong replied:

Joey can give up that award and let others have a chance, but I don’t think that sounds too fair cause seriously,no other female singer out there in HK can compare to Joey. I do like a lot of other female singers, but each of them are only good for 1 thing while Joey is an all round singer. Other than looks and a beautiful sounding voice and being able to compose, she can sing well (with technique), she can dance, she is capable of handling all types of songs, she sings with feeling, she can sing and dance at the same time… She truly is a great performer, music wise. If Anita was still alive, I bet many people would complain about the new most popular female singer winners cause they just can’t compare.

I agree with YanYanKong. This year’s awards were voted by FANS. I just think that if Joey hosted 10+ concerts during this year and the fact that she sang a popular TVB theme song that was well-received, her chance of winning “most popular female singer” would be very HIGH.

    • HeShouWu replied:

      2 reasons really:

1.) Joey has no other contenders. She has built a strong base the past ten years and no other female sing has come close. Well, Miriam hung in there for a while, but she got married.

2.)She is in the right company. EEG, for better or worse, has maintained good contacts with TVB, so while Eason is absent, Joey continues to rake in the awards.
