Emil Chau and Tarcy Su Sing “Kunta 3D” Theme Song

When Emil Chau (周華健) was hired to produce a theme song for Chinese animation film Kunta 3D <昆塔:盒子总动员>, he immediately wrote down a father-and-son duet. Kunta 3D is a family film centering around a talking box named “Boca” who seeks to save a dying planet. The film took 3 years to make, with over 150 people involved.

Kunta 3DWhen the composition and lyrics for the theme were finalized, Emil lead a wide search around Taiwan to look for his potential duet partner – a young boy who has a voice of purity, confidence, and hope. Emil even considered music teachers and commercial singers, but it was Tarcy Su’s (蘇慧倫) crisp and youthful voice that caught his attention!

Emil and Tarcy recently collaborated in the theme song for the Chinese drama The Patriot of Yue Fei <精忠岳飛>.

Asking her to perform in the voice of an 11 year-old boy, Tarcy expressed that she was “shocked” at his request, but immediately agreed to record the song. During Tarcy’s recording session, Emil purposely changed the accompaniment melody a few keys lower so Tarcy would not strain her voice. Re-editing Tarcy’s voice to the original key of the song, her voice sounded exactly like what Emil wanted – the voice of a boy’s.

The song, titled “Nothing is Impossible” <不可能是不可能的事> is available to download on KKBOX, myMusic, Omusic, and iTunes.

  1. They sing very well together and both have great voices. Great to see them sing together again.

  2. Woah.
So that is how they get all those great sounding kid voices for cartoons.
Pretty cool how they can do that. I just always thought it was a very eloquent, intelligent, kid voice actor.
