Stefanie Sun Shines in New Single, “Kepler”

After a three-year hiatus, during which she married her long-time boyfriend and gave birth to a son, Singaporean singer-songwriter Stefanie Sun (孫燕姿) has returned to the music scene with her latest single, “Kepler” <克卜勒>.

The song’s title is a reference to Kepler’s Supernova, a supernova that appeared in the Milky Way in 1604. The brightest star in the night sky for three weeks, it was visible even to the naked eye and surpassed even the planets in brightness, except for Venus.

In “Kepler,” Stefanie addresses her old and new fans, singing, “Even when you are hidden among the numerous lonely stars, I can still find you.” The song compares both her and her fans to stars twinkling in the sky, separated from each other by miles in the ice-cold Milky Way, but ultimately still able to connect with one another.

Stefanie also thanks her fans for their continuing support, which has allowed her to see that she is not alone, despite being suspended high up in the night sky. Instead, she can appreciate how her radiance illuminates her past and helps remind her that she is “no longer a lonely star in the sky.”

Although “Kepler” possesses the markings of a typical ballad, Stefanie also experimented with different musical media, infusing the song with a bit of a light-rock feel. As always, her pure vocals bring a sweet and uplifting innocence to the piece.

“Kepler” comes a month before Stefanie kicks off her 2014 World Tour on Valentine’s Day. Stefanie will start with two concerts in Taipei, Taiwan, both of which sold out within an hour. Although not all of her tour dates and locations have been confirmed, she is expected to visit Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and at least ten cities in mainland China.
