“The Voice of China’s” Zhang Hexuan Releases Debut Album

Although he was eliminated during the final rounds of last year’s singing competition The Voice of China <中國好聲音>, Zhang Hexuan (張赫宣) has won over many fans with his unique, rock-infused voice and as a result, landed a recording contract. After achieving industry recognition with his first two singles “Companion” <夥伴> and “Father” <爸爸>, Hexuan is ready to take over the charts with his debut album Declaration <宣言>.

Released on September 10, the album features 11 tracks and a balanced mix of pop and rock selection. To ensure a quality production and to add international appeal, Declaration was thoughtfully created by a team of top music writers and producers from mainland China, Hong Kong, and South Korea. The album also includes a rock track written by Hexuan himself, titled “Deception” <有詭>, a song that successfully pulls listeners into a world filled with solemn mystery with its addicting instrumentation. The rest of the album explores the various expressions and realizations of family, love, and dreams.

Hexuan had the chance to work with famous music producer Guo Liang (郭亮) on this album and enjoyed every moment. He jokingly revealed that he is suffering from recording addiction, saying that he looked forward to singing at the studio everyday. Master Guo also has nothing but praises for Hexuan, commenting that Hexuan has a strong voice that is appealing and carries hints of wisdom beyond his years. Master Guo also applauded Hexuan’s sincere attitude during the recording process. Guo further described Declaration as that best friend we rarely contact but regardless, occupies a very special place in our hearts. We would always be reminded of this friend at a particular place or time, and become filled with warm feelings. He thinks that Hexuan’s songs can easily bring out these sentiments, and believes that everyone should make this album a part of their collection and take the time to slowly digest its unique flavors.
