“The Voice of China” Participant Zhang Hexuan Releases Song Celebrating Fatherly Love

After sharing his energetic and encouraging first single, “Companion” <夥伴>, earlier this year, mainland Chinese singer Zhang Hexuan (張赫宣) recently released his second single, “Father” <爸爸>.

A graduate of the Shenyang Conservatory of Music and subsequently a music teacher in Shenzhen, Zhang Hexuan shot to fame after participating in the singing talent show, The Voice of China <中國好聲音>. His outstanding vocal abilities wowed audiences during his performance of “You Are My Favorite Girl” <你是我心愛的姑娘>, originally sung by mainland Chinese singer Wang Feng (汪峰).

Although the judges initially did not select Zhang Hexuan to continue to the next round, he swayed their opinions with his second performance, this time of “You Make Me Drunk” <你把我灌醉>. As a result, he became the final member of the group advised by singer Na Ying (那英).

“I was really too lucky!” Zhang Hexuan recalled. “Everyone else was a pretty good contestant. When Teacher Na Ying turned around for me at the last second, I felt that all my music studies and pursuits, and all of the difficulties that I had been through, had been worth it.”

Zhang Hexuan was the first of his group to advance to the following round, but was unfortunately eliminated after his next performance. Nevertheless, many media outlets and viewers felt that, because the voting process had not been clearly explained, they were not aware that they could vote for more than one person. Several of them expressed that, had the regulations been made clearer, Hexuan would have garnered more votes.

In spite of his elimination, Zhang Hexuan has still enjoyed a thriving music career afterward, having appeared in a variety of concerts and released two singles. His most recent single, “Father,” recounts the details in his and his father’s life. With its narrative format and light rock ‘n roll style, “Father” is a bittersweet expression of the love between father and son.

  1. Zhang Hexuan has a beautiful voice; enjoyed his performance on “The Voice of China”. Although he seems to be one of the lesser promoted contestants compared to the marketing blitz behind others.

    1. His voice is quite unique. He was the one I thought that would win it all, too bad his group was just too strong. His song choice at the knockout round wasn’t all that great either. He may seem less promoted, but he’s going to be one of the few contestants from this show that will last in the music industry.

      1. WildBerries,
I hope Zhang Hexuan will have a long-lasting career as well. His throaty voice is most suitable for heart-wrenching ballads. Loved his rendition of “无言” on the show. I’m also very excited by Summer (吉克隽逸); she appears to be the biggest-star in the making from “The Voice of China”.

      2. I agree, Summer is the biggest star of them all. I think its a combination of things, she’s got this bubbly character, she can sing, she’s pretty. I heard Momo Mok is quite popular as well with Harlem carrying her around in events and concerts. I heard 平安 is racking in the money, making 500k per event.

Do you like 多亮? I think his voice has that throaty voice as well.

      3. WildBerries,
多亮’s voice has a distinct quality to it, but he sounds a bit breathless. I prefer Zhang Hexuan for his crisp voice and emotional delivery. Although Zhang’s voice breaks in some instances, he is able to touch my heart with his singing. A good singer emotionally connects with his listeners.

  2. where can i watch the voice of china? what year was this?

    1. They had their first season last year. I think they are filming their second season now.

You can search on YouTube for 中国好声音. It’s 14 episodes total.

  3. OMG I can’t believe this is much better than HK version. Loving it.
