Yu Zheng’s “Yun Zhong Ge” Releases Theme Song and MV

The highly anticipated ancient drama Yun Zhong Ge <雲中歌>, officially known as Love Yunge from the Desert, recently released the music video for its theme song, “Silk.” The song is written by the drama’s producer Yu Zheng (于正) and sung by well-known mainland Chinese singer Chris Lee (李宇春).

Yun Zhong Ge is adapted from an online novel of the same name, written by Bu Bu Jing Xin <步步驚心> author Tong Hua (桐華). In the original story, female lead Yunge first falls in love with Prince Liu Fuling, whom she rescued from the harsh desert when he was eight years old. Yunge and Fuling promise to meet up in the city of Chang’an in ten years’ time, but when she arrives, she mistakes Liu Bingyi for Liu Fuling. Devastated at seeing the beautiful woman by Bingyi’s side, Yunge flees back to the desert. There, she chances upon Fuling himself and finds herself drawn into the battles of the royal court.

The released song and music video focus on the fated encounter between Yunge (Angelababy 楊穎) and Liu Bingyi (Chen Xiao 陳曉). Although Yu Zheng’s lyrics are sparse, each line is rich with meaning, and the melodious piece perfectly matches the romantic story between Yunge and Bingyi.

“Silk” features vocals by singer Chris Lee, also known as Li Yuchun, who is famous for winning the mainland Chinese singing contest Super Girl <超級女聲> in 2005. A graduate of the Sichuan Conservatory of Music, Chris is known for her upbeat and trendy songs. However, she adapted her usual style to fit the mood of Yun Zhong Ge’s theme song. Yu Zheng was so impressed with the outcome that he likened listening to the song to “having dessert when waiting for the main course.”

Apart from Angelababy and Chen Xiao, Yun Zhong Ge also stars Lu Yi (陸毅) and Du Chun (杜淳). The series’ air date has yet to be finalized.

  1. Did Yu Zheng decide after his public spat with Tong Hua to get back at her by ruining Yun Zhong Ge?!! I fully expect to be vomiting blood when it starts airing!

    1. The spat didn’t happen because of Yun Zhong Ge, so she already knew the changes. It was for his “upcoming” new series that it conflicted with her “upcoming” series she was in the process of writing.

      1. I know they didn’t argue over YZG. But this MV is only promoting Yunge/Bingyi when anyone who’s read the book know they barely have a “romantic story”. I can’t decide if this is YZ’s usual pimping of his own stars OR adding salt to the wound after his fight with TH. All I know is that I wouldn’t put it past the man to go back to the editing room to cut more scenes of the other male characters as a big F-U to TH.

      2. Hahaaha….I don’t think anybody should be surprised by YZ twisting ALL his series to suit him and his artists.

      3. I think this may be just a special cut for Chen Xiao. It’s a short MV, there might be more for the other two male leads.

      4. I’m not surprised as such, only rolling my eyes at him ignoring the two actual loves of her life.

      5. I was thinking the same thing. I was hoping to see more of yunge and ling fuling. I’m very disappointed and there was one scene in this video that I know didn’t happen in the novel. If YZ wasn’t going to follow the storyline accurately he should have done something else.

  2. I want to watch this soo badly! But it’s taking forever to air I wonder if it’s because they want to air Da Mo Yao first since this is the sequel to it technical…

    1. Rumor has it that it will air December 11. Trust me it have nothing to do with Da Mo Yao because the two companies are enemies and hated each other since time.

Da Mo Yao still hasn’t confirm if they can air the drama or not because it was banned by SARFT.

      1. Last I heard, Da Mo Yao was also going to air in June like YZG before the Chinese government suddenly decided on a “Chinese Dream” campaign. No reason to believe Da Mo Yao won’t also air after Oct.

      2. Due to Chinese Dream, from Sep to Nov, only the patriotic modern series are allowed to be aired on big channels (Big 4) in golden time slot. It means Da Mo Yao wont have a chance unless Tang Ren sells their series to small channels (likely no)

  3. She looks like a perfect porcelein doll in the picture, great to look at but somehow devoid of personality. I am not convinced.

  4. I like how this MV completely ignores the two main leads (and the two great loves in Yun Ge’s life), Meng Jue and Liu FuLing.

I think the only casting they got right in this was Chen Xiao and Liu BingYi, Yang Rong as Huo Cheng Jun, and that girl who plays Xu PingJun. The rest of the cast is just so fricking weird, especially that one guy who plays what was supposed to be the most beautiful man in all of Tong Hua’s books.

  5. This is so irritatingggggg. Angelababy looks pretty in modern movies and magazines but definitely not period dramas. And where is my Meng Jue and Ling gege? Chen Xiao is handsome but nooooooo… I want my Meng Jue and Ling gege. T_T

Yumama sure knows how to ruin a good novel.

  6. angelababy dont look like any typical chinese girl at all. awkward. she looks better in modern movies/dramas. but if they really want a pretty girl they need someone with a big chubby cheeks and puppy eyes like ruby lin. not like a pretty model who look mix. lol!

    1. Ruby Lin is cute and Angelababy had a good plastic surgeon.

    2. I agree. In my opinion, this pic she looks more traditional but I watched other traditional movies with her in it and it looks a bit out of place..
Looking forward to his drama (:

      1. When she wears traditional clothes, she looks more European. Whereas in modern clothing, she doesnt. Shes a pretty girl who has had enhancement (good in her case) but she should do wuxia period. Her look is too modern

      2. Goodness! Sleep deprivation really takes a toll on ya! Correction!

Shes a pretty girl who has had enhancement (good in her case). Regardless, she should skip wuxia series period. Her look is too modern…..

    3. @bunny
Angela’s mixed alright. With plastic, that is.

Ridiculous. There’s nothing mixed looking about her. You want to know what a mixed race East Asian look like, see Jenny Hu.

  7. Is that Angelababy in that pic? I have never watched any of her shows before, only know about her from tabloids news with HXM. But she looks pretty here !

  8. Angela normally looks really weird to me, esp her lips – kinda puckered out. But strangely in this photo of her, her lips look smaller and kept in check. If she can always look like this, I’d call her gorgeous, but i think this is just photoshop.

  9. Angela-“All chin, lips & nose implants”-baby.
    A serious miscast.

  10. im watching for chen xiao and yang rong! they are good lol but angelababy…oh god…
she looks so plastic its annoying to see her LOL

  11. yang rong is an great actress!! but how come she never gets to play the lead character! T____T she should be the main cast
