Suet Nei Dies from Illness

Veteran actress Suet Nei (雪妮) has passed away at 78 years of age, wo weeks after her husband Tang Chia’s (唐佳) demise on June 23.

In the obituary posted by the two’s family, it was mentioned that “Our beloved Tang Chia had passed away on June 23 at eighty-eight yeas old, and his wife Suet Nei had passed away on July 3 at the hospital from pancreatic cancer at the age of 78. Tang Chia and Suet Nei’s wake will be held on July 14 and their funeral on July 15, with proceedings to be a non-religious (reformed Christianity) ceremony. Their coffins will be cremated at the crematorium thereafter.”

Due to her illness, Suet Nei has been staying at the hospital for long-term treatment in recent years and has noticeably lost weight, though she remains in good spirits. Since she announced retirement in 2020, she has been focused on recovery and made few public appearances. In August 2024, the couple turned up together at a gathering with celebrity friends, and Suet Nei had beamed with happiness.

A renowned martial arts choreographer, Tang Chia was found dead at the foot of an estate in Jordan after falling from height, sending waves of shock through the entertainment circle. Tang Jia was reportedly emotionally distraught due to his wife being seriously ill, and had expressed wishes “to die together” with her to his family members. On the fateful day, he was supposed to make a trip to the lawyer’s to make amendments to his will, but chose to end his life in a tragic manner instead. Saddened by the sudden news, friends of Tang Chi including veteran actress and good friend, Helen Ma (馬海倫) and other celebrity pals performed prayer rites at the temple.

Married for 56 years, Suet Nei and Tang Chi were recognized as a model couple in Hong Kong showbiz. Suet Nei admitted that she had a stubborn personality and was fortunate to have her husband’s care and forgiveness. Meanwhile, Tang Chi was known as the “go-along husband” as he would personally fetch Suet Nei after she filmed on set and make nourishing soups for her.
