Suet Nei’s Husband, Chia Tang, Passes Away

Chia Tang (唐佳), a renowned Hong Kong action choreographer and veteran actor, passed away yesterday after falling from a building in Jordan, Hong Kong. He was 88 years old. Chia was married to his wife, actress Suet Nei (雪妮), for over half a century and the couple had always been inseparable. In recent years, Suet Nei has been battling pancreatic cancer and has been staying in the hospital for long-term treatment. With Chia’s passing, there is growing concern about Suet Nei’s condition.
Suet Nei, whose real name is Hung Suet Nei (熊雪妮), was born in 1945. She joined the film industry at the age of 17 and starred in many wuxia films. One of her most well-known works is The Legend of Wonder Lady <女黑俠木蘭花>, which gained her significant popularity. It was during this film that she met Chia, the film’s martial arts choreographer, and they began a relationship.
Three years later, Suet Nei retired from acting after marrying Chia. The couple had two sons and eventually moved to Canada for some time. Over two decades later, TVB invited her to make a comeback in Secret of the Heart <天地豪情>. She went on to appear in several TVB dramas, including At the Threshold of an Era <創世紀>, Country Spirit <酒是故鄉醇>, and War Of In-Laws <我的野蠻奶奶>.
After Suet Nei’s return to acting, Chia often accompanied his wife to filming sets and even described himself as her “manager, slave, and bodyguard.” In 2020, Suet Nei announced her retirement, citing one reason that a hereditary condition caused deafness in one of her ears, requiring her to wear a hearing aid. She once mentioned Chia was always by her side and even when she couldn’t hear something, he would help explain things to her.
Since retiring, Suet Nei has rarely appeared in public. In August last year, she and Chia attended a gathering with several industry friends. Photos circulated online showing the couple still looking energetic and full of smiles.
