2014 Forbes China Celebrity 100 List: Fan Bingbing Ranked First

Following last year, Fan Bingbing (范冰冰) continues to take the lead on 2014 Forbes China Celebrity 100 list, which ranks the year’s most influential entertainment and sports celebrities from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. Andy Lau (劉德華) is in second place, while Jay Chou (周杰倫) ranks third.

With continuous filming, brand advertising, and commercial speech offers, Fan Bingbing possesses a full work schedule year-round. Currently dubbed as “China’s Most Commercially Valuable Artiste”, she thanked everyone for their support in an interview and expressed she will continue to spread her charm around the globe.

Top Earnings Goes to Jay Chou

Since the overall Forbes list is generated from both annual income and media exposure rates, the most influential celebrity is not necessarily the highest earner. In terms of salary rankings, Jay Chou is in first place making 156.5 million RMB for the year, overcoming Fan Bingbing, who is in fourth place with an annual income of 122 million RMB.

As a singer and actor, Jay has not only completed several rounds of concert tours, but also broke 100 million RMB in box office last year with his self-produced and directed film The Rooftop <天台愛情>. Ranked second and third on the annual income list are sports star Li Na (李娜) with 141.5 million RMB and Taiwanese band Mayday (五月天) with 133.3 million RMB.

Celebrity Couples

Originally in eighth place last year, Huang Xiaoming (黃曉明) has now climbed to fourth place on the overall Forbes list with an income of 66.5 million RMB. Meanwhile, his girlfriend Angelababy (楊穎) also made the list in the 55th spot, earning 19.3 million RMB annually. Yang Mi (楊冪) is ranked sixth with earnings of 52 million RMB, while her husband Hawick Lau (劉愷威) is in 19th place, earning 55 million RMB.

Celebrity couple Nicky Wu (吳奇隆) is in ninth place and Cecilia Liu (劉詩詩) is in 25th place, with annual incomes of 67 million RMB and 29.5 million RMB respectively.

Newcomers on the List

There were a total of fifteen celebrities whose names appeared on the Forbes list for the first time this year, including Tiffany Tang (唐嫣) in 73rd place, Wallace Huo (霍建華) in 82nd place, Michelle Chen (陳妍希) in 88th place, and G.E.M. (鄧紫棋) in 91st place. Although their incomes are no match in comparison to aforementioned stars, their escalating popularity allowed them to enter the list.

Singer G.E.M.’s popularity skyrocketed after her participation in the second season of hit show, I Am a Singer <我是歌手>. Besides making it onto the overall Forbes list, she is also 99th place on the top income list with earnings of 10.9 million RMB. G.E.M. expressed happily, “I will continue to make the best of music, and I hope to use my own music to influence more people.”

  1. So whatever happened to “very popular in Mainland” Kevin Cheng? LOL!

    1. he should be extra careful when choosing the script

  2. It seems that Raymond Lam is the only TVB artistes, who could make the top 100 on
Forbes China Celebrity 100 List 2014

      1. Karena is digging the gold up if you want I mean.

      2. How come raymond lam just 22Million++? zz
To run tax ah then dun wan to file the real income? So little? zz

  3. a little sad 🙁 no charmaine sheh 🙁 maybe because she didn’t film any movies in one year and a half 🙁 hope she will be on the list next year 😀

  4. Oh crap!

For a moment I mistook Wang Lee Hom for Ron Ng and almost went into a state of shock.

    1. How could you mix them 2 together there nothing alike. But I was hoping Ron and Bosco make the list but sadly they didn’t.

  5. wish i didn’t go to college, i can just be an actor/singer.

    1. You can still take acting or drama in college. After graduation, just go to live in Hong Kong, Mainland China or Taiwan if you want to film Chinese movies or drama series.

Not every artiste makes tons of money. It depends on a person’s fate, luck and connections.

    2. no one is too old for acting. christopher plummer is in his 80s and still acting

    3. Even if your like 30-40 you can still act. But you gotta know how speak and read Chinese fluently and have some kind of charm or look. And have a good image.

  6. wasnt there an article saying louis earning 236 million

  7. What about Michelle Ye? She should be on the list.

    1. Some artistes’ earnings may be more difficult to calculate. Don’t know if they also need to respond to Forbes’ inquiries to provide salary levels in order to be included.

I’m sure Michelle Ye is already a millionaire.

From the list, the top singers make a lot of money from holding concert performances in China. Jay Chou’s wealth is staggering…he has dominated the top spots on Forbes’ list for years.

      1. his 156million is Earning after tax?
How come raymond lam just 22milion++ so little? This solely just based on earning on entertainment? The figure minus tax adi anot? thanks miss jayne..

  8. Surprise, surprise.

Andy lau earns more than jackie chan.
Lin Chiling earns more than Zhang ziyi.

  9. I wonder his accurate this list is? Something just does not seem right because some of the names that are on there does not seem to belong on there while that should be on there are not on there.

    1. Who do you think that they seem not belong to the list? (pure curiosity)

  10. that is just so amazing with all of the something million
that is just incredible and i just had athletics carnival today at sydney athletics centre and i am so tired now but i would like to jet congrats to these wonderful film actors LOL 😀

    1. No wonder every person (especially girls) wants to be an artiste! It is the easiest way to become a millionaire.

      1. Not really. Only for those who made it.

Easiest way is to be a computer geek, come up with an app that goes viral, sell it to the big boys and become instant BILLIONAIRES before you reach 21.

      2. Yeah , my brother regrets not studying computer science when he was in college. Some people become millionaires just from making apps…go google it up. To become billionaire though, you might need to make apps that sell like “Angry Bird.” I think any productive and useful apps like note taking, checklist, police radio…etc are enough to achieve the millionaire status

  11. So this list is not about how much money is earned most?

    1. Yeah, that what I was wondering too
since Yang Mi ranked 6th and earned 52 million RMB, but her husband earned more than her, he earned 55 million RMB, yet he is at rank 19th?
So this is not based on who earn the most?
So afterall Hawick does earn more than his wife, LOL! Many people thinks that Yang Mi earned more than him.

    2. From the article it’s based on:

Since the overall Forbes list is generated from both annual income and media exposure rates, the most influential celebrity is not necessarily the highest earner. In terms of salary rankings, Jay Chou is in first place making 156.5 million RMB for the year, overcoming Fan Bingbing, who is in fourth place with an annual income of 122 million RMB.

    3. Money + Popularity + Professional critics.

  12. So the ranking and earnings do not match! What is criteria? Why?

    1. LOL u should read the article more closely

      1. FYI, I did read the article….
“Since the overall Forbes list is generated from both annual income and media exposure rates, the most influential celebrity is not necessarily the highest earner.” …. What is the criteria for “media exposure rates” — some one counts each article? photo? in the newspaper? magazines? both upstanding publications and rags as well???

  13. what does Fan Bing Bing even do to make that much??

    1. Lily,
“what does Fan Bing Bing even do to make that much??”

Aside from Fan Bingbing’s filming projects, she endorses a lot of luxury brands in China. She is an international fashion icon and apparently the epitome of female beauty, judging by her frequent appearances on Chinese fashion magazines. Her exposure rate in well-known Chinese media outlets is daily and she receives lucrative income from endorsing brands.

  14. The overall poor presentation of Hong Kong artistes on the Forbes’ list this year versus last year may also indicate their declining influence in the Mainland market. Last year, there were quite a few TVB artistes on the list. Perhaps series featuring TVB stars in China are not particularly pulling in the ratings to warrant their high pay?

    1. Didn’t this site recently posted an article on how the Chinese view HK actors/actresses as B-listers who only appear in crummy dramas?

  15. Another overlooked celebrity(ies) from the list is the Taiwanese rock band, Mayday, who has made the top of this list for several years now. The five-piece R&B based rock band recently held several sold out performances in NY’s Madison Square Garden.

    1. Mayday made the list They are #12 > 12. Mayday (五月天) with 133.50 million.

  16. TVB artistes are so poor! Only Raymond Lam made the list because he made 3 mainland series last year! Where’s Kevin? I thought he mainly works in mainland?

  17. That explains why Kevin is kicked out of the list! But Raymond Lam’s mainland drama with Michelle Ye was criticized too. There must be favoritism in this list.

    1. Because other than the 3 series filming in China, last year LF also has 2 movies showed, 1 album, 1 HK concert and its tour trip, 1 concert DVD together with advertisements and functions. KC only has one or two series showed and they are all not successful. He didnt join BBJQ but Hua Si Xin which is delayed. Can see why he does not have enough exposure last year.

  18. The 2014 Forbes list ranks the most influential entertainment and sports celebrities from Mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan. TVB artists may not make the top 100 on Forbes China Celebrity 100 List 2014 because their income is not high enough and they are not influential enough (in China, HK, Taiwan and Asia).
I am happy and surprised to see that Andy Lau still ranks high on the list despite his age. Well, age is not a problem as I don’t like to discriminate older people like some other people do. I actually respect them more. But artists in their prime time of their career usually earn more, so it is harder for older or not-in-prime-time artists to make it to the list.

    1. I would be shocked if ANY tvb artist made that list considering what they pay them.

  19. Every time reading about Andy Lau’s popularity, rich, girlfriend, wife, daughter, his personal life, the story of his one fan-girl’s dad suicided comes to my mind again. He did lie a lot. I usually think that if he did inform that he had girlfriend then his fangirl could not get too heavily crazy in love with him, then her family would not lost a lot of money then the incident would not happen. He hid his love relationship for his popularity, and of course for the money. He understand very well of women’s feelings. Think if his wife is not from a very rich and powerful family, will he be loyal to her? I did admire him, but after that incident I felt terrible and promise myself that I will need to pay more attention of young girls’ thought, need to explain to them what’s the real things of popularity, rich, handsomeness

  20. What were they smoking when they made that list? How is Shu Qi so high on it?
I guess we can add the Forbes top 100 editor to the long list of people she has slept with to advance her career lol.

  21. eason chan 75million? wtf. This ugly pork chop seriously so many people buying his album? really? How true were the reports oh? wtf.and gillian chung 100th ngam ngam. haha,
Raymond Lam just 24.6Million? serious or he no report real income? His RMB500000k per episode 40 episodes also 20Million alone. Not yet including other concerts, album, movie and others. How true were the reports? damn!zz
And never mentioned whether is earning after tax or before tax. @@

    1. This ‘ugly pork chop’ is more talented in his left toe alone than Raymond Lam ever hopes to be.

Good to see Eason doing so well.
