Netflix’s miniseries, BEEF, had big wins at the 2024 Golden Globes.  Steven Yeun won for Best Male Actor  in a Limited Series for his performance in BEEF. His co-star Ali Wong also won Best Actress in a Limited Series. This marked the first time an Asian actor and actress won both categories simultaneously at the Golden Globes. BEEF also won for Best Limited Series.

In his acceptance speech, Steven thanked his wife, citing her as his motivation. Ali thanked her ex- husband and best friend Justin Hakata for his love and support, citing him as the reason she is able to be a working mother.

Released in 2023, BEEF received positive reviews. Two strangers get involved in a road rage incident that escalates into a prolonged feud. Steven plays a contractor whose business is struggling and often flies into an angry rage once triggered. Ali is an entrepreneur who seems to be living a comfortable life, but is caught in a vicious cycle of revenge. Besides the dark humor, the story reflects on how to face and control one’s emotions and inner thoughts.

  1. Glad that Asian actors are getting the recognition but I wonder if it is because Hollywood is trying to be political correct or actual deserving? Don’t want this to end up like the recent Disney disasters. I could see Asian productions winning in international awards because the quality if higher in pretty much every arena.
