Ann Hui’s “Our Time Will Come” Set to Open Shanghai Film Festival

Ann Hui’s (許鞍華) latest project, the war drama film Our Time Will Come <明日幾時有>, will be opening the Shanghai Film Festival on June 18th. It is the only Chinese-language film to compete for the coveted Golden Goblet Award.

Starring Zhou Xun (周迅), Eddie Peng (彭于晏), and Wallace Huo (霍建華), the film is a World War II drama centering on the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong, which lasted three years and eight months. Zhou Xun, Eddie, and Wallace will also be competing for Film Queen and King.

Our Time Will Come is Eddie’s first literary art film, as well as his first collaboration with Ann Hui. Eddie has learned a lot from his work in the film, saying, “Director Hui likes a challenge even more than me. She’s more man than any man! She’s very clear in what she wants, and will not compromise. She’s very willing to try different film styles. Although this genre has been done before, Ann Hui wanted to challenge herself to do it differently. This is her courage.”

Eddie added that Ann and his own mother are the same age. “Not only is she a very experienced senior in the industry, she is also an elder I really respect in my life.”

Our Time Will Come opens in theaters July 1, 2017.
