Brian Chu Dreams of Acting in Movies

Highly promoted by TVB, Brian Chu (朱敏瀚) is focusing on his career and taking advantage of his popularity wave. However, Brian no longer openly talks about his blossoming relationship with Hera Chan (陳曉華) despite admitted earlier they were getting to know each other. From his past experiences, Brian learned relationships can also affect others’ efforts as well as his own career progress.

Brian’s ex-girlfriends include actresses Angel Chiang (蔣家旻) and Stitch Yu (余思霆), relationships which he openly spoke about. Reflecting on his current reticence with Hera, Brian said, “I’m actually someone who likes to be direct and keep things simple.” Realizing his comments can also affect “the other person’s hard work” and his team’s efforts, Brian commented, “After going through different stages, I feel that staying quiet now is the right choice.” When asked if past breakups influenced this decision, he replied, “Not really. It’s more about growing up. The pressure and attention back then were less. As we get older, we carry more responsibilities and can’t just do whatever we want.”

Focusing on his career, the 33-year-old’s popularity and opportunities at TVB have been steadily increasing. After winning TVB’s Most Improved Actor in 2020 and Best Supporting Actor award in 2021, Brian slowly made his way to leading actor status. When asked if he’s aiming for TV King, Brian said that it is part of the journey but not the ultimate goal. Brian’s real dream is to film movies.

“I don’t even have to win an award. Just being in a great movie and watching myself on the big screen would be a dream come true,” Brian said. Asked what kind of film roles he would like to try, Brian is open to anything. “I watch movies every other day. [My idol is] Tony Leung (梁朝偉)! He’ll always be my idol. It’s really hard to find another actor like him in today’s era. It would take a stroke of luck and perfect timing.”
