Carlos Chan Wins Best New Actor At Huading Awards

The actor says he’s lucky to get four hours of sleep in two days.

Carlos Chan (陳家樂) is overjoyed to nab Best New Actor at the 24th Huading Awards recently, thanks to his performance in miniseries, The Trading Floor <東方華爾街>. Laughing about his longtime participation in the awards as a guest, the 32-year-old actor shared his nervous feelings at being nominated this year and thanked his supporters for their votes and acceptance.

“The most important thing beyond the awards is that viewers like my performance,” Onstage, he also expressed his gratitude to Andy Lau (劉德華), producer of The Trading Floor whom he calls his idol, as well as his boss and manager.

Realizing the increase in his fans since the airing of Daddy Cool <逆缘> and The Trading Floor this year, Carlos says this finally made him appreciate firsthand the power of television dramas. Heartened to have had a lucky year in which his dramas performed well, he is motivated to continue working hard, even if this meant sacrificing his rest time.

Currently filming both TVB drama ICAC Investigators 2019 <廉政行動2019> and a movie on hand, Carlos was congratulated by friends on his “lack of sleep”. He said, “I’m glad to have four hours of sleep for every two days of filming.”

Known as “The People’s Choice” Awards of China, Huading awards saw the attendance of Hong Kong celebrities Rosina Lam (林夏薇), Theresa Mo (毛舜筠), Shirley Yeung (楊思琦), Carrie Ng (吳家麗), and Florence Kwok (郭少芸).

  1. Happy for him, but it’s beyond me how these artists can muster the brainpower to memorize their lines running on so little sleep.

I haven’t watched the previous two ICACI installments (since they seem to be getting progressively worse), but will likely tune in to this upcoming one, if only for Carlos, Joyce, and Kent.

Let’s hope TVB actually puts some effort into the script and plot for this one, rather than simply relying on star-power to reel in the viewers. Hey, one can dream…

    1. @sugarcane The ICAC series are actually co-collaborations with the government and majority of them are based on real life cases, so script and plot-wise, there really isn’t a whole lot that TVB can do. I doubt that TVB even considers these ICAC series as their own series, as most of the time, the directors / producers involved are outsiders (usually from the HK movie world) and the artists who participate may not necessarily be from TVB.

But overall, with TVB’s own series though, I definitely agree that they need to put more effort into the script and not just rely on star-power…but again, doubt anything is going to change….

  2. Congrats to Carlos! I hope he gets better movie offers after this. It’s time to pass the baton to promising young actors like him.

  3. Congrats to Carlos, though technically he’s not a “new artist” as he’s been in the industry 15 years already with more than 10 years of that as an actor (mostly in movies)….so in a way, kind of wish the award had a different title. But I guess the most important thing is that Carlos’s efforts are being recognized and if he gets better offers due to this recognition, then yes, that’s definitely a good thing. He’s one of those artists who actually has looks as well as talent (a rare find nowadays) and from what I’ve seen of his works so far (movies and TV series), I have no doubt that he will go far. He’s one of the few newer generation artists that I actually enjoy watching nowadays so hopefully he (or the people who manage him) will keep the momentum going. Looking forward to his next project!
