“Doctor Cha” Soars to New Ratings High

JTBC’s medical comedy Doctor Cha is breaking its personal record rating every week as the thickening plot continues to attract a growing audience.

Former full-time housewife, Dr. Cha Jeong Suk (Uhm Jung Hwa) resumes her medical career amid her family’s protests and faces ageism as the hospital’s oldest resident.   In the latest episode, she continues to hold onto her marriage despite discovering that her husband Dr. Seo In Ho (Kim Byung Chul) has an ongoing affair with his first love Dr. Choi Seung Hee (Myung Se Bin). Heartbroken and emotionally conflicted, Dr. Cha believes the best solution for now is to move out of the house and live at the resident dorms instead. However, Dr. Cha soon realizes that the worse has yet to come when she shockingly learns that her husband and Dr. Choi have a child the same age as her daughter.

Since the start of the show, viewers are already well-informed of the affair and anticipated that it would be a painful revelation for Dr. Cha. With the airing of the 10th episode, viewership shot up from an average nationwide rating to 17.96 percent, compared to last week’s 15.59 percent.

Maintaining its position as the highest rating weekend drama, Doctor Cha even managed to beat Extraordinary Attorney Woo‘s highest rating of 17.53 percent last year and won the 8th spot as the highest-rated series in cable  television history. With six more episodes before Dr. Cha’s finale on June 4, ratings are expected to shatter more records and challenge  Mr. Sunshine and Guardian: The Lonely and Great God, which are respectively ranked 7th and 6th in all-time cable ratings.
