Eliza Sam Met Her Husband Before Their Blind Date

TVB actress Eliza Sam (岑麗香) and her husband Joshua Ngo celebrated their one year wedding anniversary last December. Much like a fairy tale, it was fate that brought Eliza and Joshua together. The Apple-colada <果欄中的江湖大嫂> actress shared that she actually met Joshua before formally meeting each other on their blind date, which was arranged by mutual friends.

“I told my friends that I wanted to meet someone new, from zero,” she said. “My friends then decided to arrange [the blind date]. A few of our friends actually wanted us to be together, so I do believe this was under God’s arrangement!”

Before their blind date, Eliza and Joshua exchanged messages and talked on the phone. “Our first official meeting was when he came to my house to pick me up for dinner!” It was then, Eliza said, when she realized that she had actually met Joshua before. “The first time I met him was actually when I was working part-time as a waitress in college. I recognized him!”

After tying the knot in Vancouver, Eliza’s hometown, Joshua decided to move to Hong Kong to accommodate Eliza’s career. Having to give up the comfortable space of being with family and friends from Vancouver was a huge sacrifice for Joshua.

“This man was willing to give up everything for a woman, and all to support my dream,” said Eliza. “He is very brave and very manly!”

Both Eliza and Joshua would love to have children in the future, but the career-minded Eliza said she wants to put more time in her work for now. “My husband and I have talked about it. We’ll let nature take its course. We’ve maintained a long distance relationship for a while, so right now, we want to enjoy being just us for now!”

Eliza is unlike many of her peers, who would usually take a step back in their careers after getting married. Eliza said she actually hasn’t stopped working since getting married. “I did spent some time in Canada to visit my family, but after that I came back to Hong Kong and filmed back-to-back dramas. After completing Apple-colada I went straight to work for Heart and Greed <溏心風暴3>.”

The 33-year-old added that as long as she finds a balance between her career and private life, there is no need to retire from the industry. Eliza added that Joshua expects her to continue her acting career, which inspires her to work harder.

At the mention of her heart-wrenching romance with Vincent Wong (王浩信) in Heart and Greed, would  Eliza also like to experience an entrenching and unforgettable romance? “I want a simple life,” she said. “I don’t want too much stress! This is what I love about acting. I get to vicariously live through other characters.”

Eliza is extremely grateful of Michelle Yim (米雪), who played her mother on the show, for helping her to get in character. “To help my family’s business, I decided to marry Jason Chan (陳智燊), but I didn’t like him. I just held onto Michelle Jeh and cried!” Michelle was a very helpful teacher, and Eliza truly felt their bond as mother and daughter.
