Eric Tsang Explains He Kissed Malaysian Model Out of “Polite Manners”
A video of TVB General Manager Eric Tsang (曾志偉), 69, kissing Malaysian model Lebara (黎峇菈), 26, on her birthday got viral. Many wondered if Eric had taken advantage of the occasion to get close to the model.
Addressing the media today, Eric explained he does now know Lebara well and simply gave her a kiss out of “polite manners.”
When he was at a caviar tasting event on September 30, Eric’s friends greeted him and invited him to Lebara’s birthday. “They were celebrating their friend’s birthday, and her wish was to have me sing a birthday song for her. After singing the song, it was only polite manners to give her a kiss on the cheek. Thus, I don’t understand why it has become such a big deal.”
He pointed out that there was a misunderstanding because he personally did not know the model nor intentionally attended the birthday party. Eric apologized if the incident hurt anyone and said, “Everyone needs to know that not everything in the entertainment industry can be uploaded on social media. She probably didn’t know the impact it would have when she posted the video online.”
When asked if he felt that he is being used for publicity, Eric commented, “As an entertainer, I’m already used to these kinds of situations.”
Lebara Responds
Although Lebara seemed taken by surprise and even pulled back from Eric’s embrace during their kiss, the Malaysian model addressed the controversy on social media today.
“A small birthday greeting has caused a lot of uproar… It’s troubling–this year, my birthday wish is world peace, but it is seems the opposite has happened. I wonder if I made the wrong wish?” Lebara also added, “Let the noise be noisy. I am my own; I am charming and indistinguishable from the world.”

first… i saw the video… it’s not mouth to mouth kiss…
as in a bday event, after happy bday song… normal that you said happy bday & have a kiss.
i m not defending for him… i find that very normal
He says he does not know her…but he will give her a kiss with his arms resting on her… anyway, it may be okay for some culture but odd to others… Sound like he gave her the kiss without her permission. And she was taken aback. But that is between them. Since she is cool about it…
