Five Chinese Dramas Airing in May Include Godfrey Gao’s Posthumous Release

May will see the introducing of five highly-anticipated Chinese television dramas that will also include Godfrey Gao (高邑鄉) in his last project before his unfortunate passing last November.

May 1st — Beautiful Reborn Flower <彼岸花>

Adapted from the novel of the same name by Annie Baby (安妮宝贝), Beautiful Reborn Flower stars Jelly Lin (林允) and Song Weilong (宋威龙) as a pair of star-crossed lovers who grows to understand the tragic fate that will happen if they choose to stay together. Jelly Lin plays two characters in a story that involves past and present lives.

May 4th — Autumn Cicada <秋蝉>

Set in 1941 during the Japanese occupation of Hong Kong, the drama stars Allen Ren (任嘉伦) and Jing Tian (景甜) and follows the journey of a young Communist soldier who goes to great lengths to defend his base and country from the spoils of war. The drama also stars Zhang Hanyu (张涵予) and Li Xiaoran (李小冉).

May 18th (tentative) — Love Advanced Customization <爱情高级定制>

Starring Dilireba (迪丽热巴) and Johnny Huang (黄景瑜), the drama revolves around the relationship between a fashion designer and the young boss of an e-commerce company. It also stars Viann Zhang (张馨予).

The Wolf <狼殿下>

The Wolf stars Darren Wang (王大陸) and is slated to air sometime in May. Set in the final years of the Tang Dynasty, The Wolf also stars Sweet Li (李沁) and Sean Xiao (肖战). Darren stars as Zhu Youwen, a righteous prince who went the lengths of going against his family in order to protect the empire from the hands of an unworthy emperor. The drama was shot in 2017, before Sean Xiao hit it big with last year’s The Untamed <陈情令>.

We Are All Alone <怪你过分美丽>

Slated to premiere in May, We Are All Alone is the last drama starring Godfrey Gao prior to his passing in November 2019. Set in the backdrop of the entertainment industry, the drama stars Qin Lan (秦岚) as the head executive of a management agency, and Godfrey stars as a lawyer.

    Yay!!! Godfrey’s drama!! Finally!!! Thank God they didnt shelve it due to his passing and we don’t need to wait for a year before it could get a broadcasting slot.
