Shortly after marrying Jay Chou (周杰倫) in 2015, Hannah Quinlivan (昆凌) gave birth to the couple’s first child Hathaway when she was only 22 years old. In 2017, they welcomed their second child, Romeo. Though having two babies in the first two years of her marriage, Hannah had no desire to halt her career.
Merely three days after she gave birth to Romeo, Hannah auditioned for her role in the Hollywood action film, Skyscraper. Hannah wowed in her audition and was cast in the film, which was released in 2018.
“I’m a Selfish Mother”
During a recent interview, the 25-year-old actress shared tidbits about her journey as a mother. Hannah was open to talking about the cons of being a young mother. She often still has temper tantrums, just like a little kid, and would experience upheavals of emotions and get angry easily.
“Sometimes, I think I am quite a selfish mother.” Her young age, coupled with being a first-time mother, caused Hannah to be very nervous and watchful over Hathaway. She lamented that she was perhaps quite the “Tiger Mom” at the beginning.
“Before, I would insist on cooking at home and only allowing my daughter to eat what I cook, which is free of salt, oils, or any spices. My mom told me that even the baby would find the food disgusting. I told her that a baby has no idea what’s good tasting or not. I wouldn’t even give my daughter watermelon juice, because I felt that it was too sweet. I had read in a nutrition book that if you give a child sugar, it would temporary halt their growth for four hours. I thought ‘Oh no! I can’t let that happen! My daughter must always be growing!’” However, over time and after the birth of her second child, Hannah gradually began to lighten up.
Although diligent with expanding her career and fashion business, Hannah is conscious of making time for her family and not neglecting home life. No matter how busy work life may get, Hannah would make sure to prioritize her family first, and would often spend time traveling with Jay and her two children. Hannah also likes to bring her children to work as well.
