Huang Xiaoming Loves Giving Princess Hugs to Angelababy

With the success of his currently airing television drama, Cruel Romance <錦繡緣·華麗冒險>, mainland Chinese actor Huang Xiaoming (黃曉明) has again captured viewers’ hearts with his portrayal of the overbearing and stoic businessman, Zuo Zhen. In a recent interview, Xiaoming spoke about his character in the drama, his relationship with girlfriend Angelababy (楊穎), and the location of his upcoming wedding.

Wants to Enjoy the Little Things in Life

Though Huang Xiaoming has focused mainly on his movie career in recent years, Cruel Romance came to his attention when his production company’s employees came across the screenplay and recommended it to him. After reading through the script, he too came to appreciate the male lead, who, despite being an influential and respected businessman, is not above performing common, little tasks for his lover.

“Before I became famous, the thing I liked doing most was crouching on the street and eating meat sticks, especially lamb sticks,” recalled Xiaoming. “But now I can’t do that anymore because I’m afraid people will crowd around me.”

Xiaoming added that one of the most enjoyable “little things” in life is donning a hat and glasses and going to the supermarket with Angelababy. “I also really like buying food from the street stalls,” he said. “That is the feeling of life, the feeling of returning to the time before I was famous.”

Likes Giving Princess Hugs to Angelababy

Since Xiaoming is one of the investors backing Cruel Romance, some might have expected him to cast his girlfriend as the leading lady. Xiaoming admitted that although they had sought out Angelababy for the role and she was interested in filming a drama with him, Taiwanese actress Joe Chen (陳喬恩) had by then already agreed to play the part.

“I told Baby that I had a good relationship with Joe, and that I felt she was very suited for the role,” he shared. “There have always been directors looking for [Angelababy and I] to act together, but we haven’t found a suitable screenplay yet.”

When asked if he and Angelababy have reenacted any of the romantic scenes in Cruel Romance, Xiaoming said that the both of them are too realistic to indulge in such fantasies. However, he added that he does enjoy giving her princess hugs, out of his desire to protect her. Moreover, despite Angelababy’s tough girl image on the variety show Hurry Up, Brother <奔跑吧兄弟>, also known as the Chinese version of Running Man, she is quite appreciative of her boyfriend’s loving touch.

“She’s just like a shy little girl around me,” said Xiaoming. “She likes to snuggle up against me.”

Wedding to Be Held in China

Though details regarding the couple’s engagement and wedding have not yet been ironed out, Xiaoming revealed that their wedding ceremony would definitely take place in China.

“It must take place in our home country in order to be official,” Xiaoming said. “This is the most important thing, and it cannot be changed. Everything else is up to our liking.”
