Jacky Cheung Releases New Song to Welcome the Year of the Rabbit

Cantopop legend Jacky Cheung (張學友) is ready for the Year of the Rabbit and wishes everyone a happy Lunar New Year filled with good health and prosperity. As part of his greeting, Jacky also releases the solo version of hit song Let the Streetlights Sleep at Sunrise <日出時讓街燈安睡> to spread some positivity.

Originally a duet song sang with Gin Lee (李幸倪), Jacky revealed that he was captivated by the song and really wanted to record a solo version, “I just like this song. When I heard the song for the first time, I told composer Eric Kwok (郭偉亮) and lyricist Riley (林若寧 ) that I hoped to sing this song.”

Jacky added, “It may be because the title of this song is very similar to my other work ‘Love Ends at Sunrise’ <日出時讓戀愛終結> that created an inexplicable familiarity. It’s like a continuation. When I look closely at the lyrics, there’s a sense of powerlessness yet there is hope to persevere. It matches very closely to my state of mind. I also really like the melody.”

After getting the composer and lyricist’s approval, Jacky was happy to work with his friend Wu Qinlong (吳慶隆) and created a rearrangement that features a piano accompaniment. Jacky shares that he hopes that the song would help others find their encouragement.

Jacky adds, “When people face an adversity, it’s difficult to escape from the disappointment. Instead, we should learn to face it. Just like how the state of the mind is flexible,  It is also easy to go with the current or against the current.”
