James Ng Leaves TVB

Since last year, James Ng (吳業坤) has been dropping hints that his contract with TVB is coming to an end. When James received the 10-year service award in 2020, many netizens persuaded him to leave stating that he had wasted 10 years of youth. The singer-actor indeed took action, and recently made a quiet departure from TVB.

Joining the industry after competing in singing competition The Voice 2 <超級巨聲2>, James’ early days were full of struggles and he was not given many opportunities. In a former TVB Anniversary Gala, James even served as a background prop and dressed in a chess piece costume.

His career finally got its first boost when he signed with Star Entertainment (Universe) Limited as a singer. His songs, “Turns Out She Doesn’t Love Me Enough” <原來她不夠愛我> and “Sunshine’s Song” <陽光點的歌>, gained a lot of popularity and he swept the newcomer awards that year. Signing with Sunny Idea in 2019, James however did not stay long with the company and recently left on amicable terms.

It is said that James wants to focus on developing his acting career. He had a fruitful year last year taking part in three dramas: Plan “B” <寶寶大過天>, Freedom Memories <青春本我>, Used Goods <異搜店> as well as hosting Long Time No See, Tokyo <#好掛住日本> and being sent to interview athletes at the Tokyo Olympics.

The 31-year-old has signed with TVB’s sister company, Shaw Brothers, whose productions have a broader reach in the Chinese market.

  1. Don’t know if there’s a market for him in China, he’s pretty average and past his prime

  2. Sorry to be a d*ck about it, but nothing of value was lost. He should have pursued his singing career further because he can’t act.

  3. I did watch him act many times but he is not talented in that area. TVB has given him some opportunities but he just doesn’t shine. I wish him well in his future prospects.
