Jinny Ng Wins Round Two Over Hana Kuk?

Jinny Ng (吳若希) has long been rumored to be at odds with fellow colleague Hana Kuk (菊梓喬) as they fight for the title of Big Sister of Voice Entertainment. With the management shakeup at Voice Entertainment, Hana’s position may slip and Jinny may once again regain her former glory.

After giving birth to her first child in 2017, Jinny stepped away from the limelight to focus on her family. This was the time when Hana started rising the ranks at Voice Entertainment, and won many awards with prominent theme songs under her belt. Their rivalry has been ongoing since Jinny lost out on the My Favorite Female Singer award for three years to Hana.

Jinny’s New Advantage

Now that Voice Entertainment CEO Herman Ho (何哲圖) has resigned, Hana lost her biggest supporter. She has a joint contract with her agent and Voice Entertainment, while Jinny is fully signed with the music label. Many wonder how this will play out with Eric Tsang (曾志偉) now in charge of music production, and whether it will tip the scales in favor of Jinny in the fight to be top female singer at Voice Entertainment.

Jinny seems to be full of confidence, and disclosed that she is in talks regarding a new contract with Voice Entertainment. As TVB views the music label as a valuable subsidiary, executive Virginia Lok (樂易玲) met with each of the singers to discuss their future plans. However, Hubert Wu (胡鴻鈞) and Fred Cheng’s (鄭俊弘) contracts have expired and will not renew with the music label.

As for Herman Ho’s resignation, Jinny does not feel sad because the Hong Kong entertainment market is small and there is bound to be an opportunity to work together again. Sending her blessings, she hopes that he can continue supporting the music industry from a new angle.

New Competition?

Once again, Jinny clarified that there is no rivalry between her and Hana, and they have never competed. “We just focus on our own work. I don’t pay attention to her, and she doesn’t pay attention to me.”

Asked if she felt threatened by JW (王灝兒) and Venus Wong (王敏奕), who signed with Voice Entertainment last year, Jinny stated that competition has never crossed her mind. “I was very blunt with my manager. First, I go to work to make money. Second, I go to work to be happy. If I’m not happy, then I’ll work if you pay me. If I am happy, then money is of no consequence.”

Wants to Make Money Lazily

Originally intending to return to work on January 1, Jinny has now extended her maternity leave due to the ongoing pandemic. She also felt that she had not lost all of her pregnancy weight since giving birth to her second baby last November.

To pass time, Jinny opened her own YouTube channel. Known for often sharing her husband’s wrongdoings, she joked that she will continue to share tips on how to make your husband obedient. “I want everyone to know what a great wife I am! I admire my husband–he often commits a fancy form of suicide. He will make me angry on purpose, and then sweet talk until I forgive him.”

Taking a leisurely mindset now, Jinny said feng shui master Clement Chan (陳定幫) predicted she will have 23 years of good luck. “He said I’ll be lucky until am 51 years old. In the next 10 years, I won’t have to struggle–I can be lazy and easily earn money. He did say that my luck will start in 2022, but I think it started already. I want to lie here and still make money!”
