Why Jinny Ng Was Chosen for “From Hong Kong to Beijing”

Premiering last week, From Hong Kong to Beijing <香港人在北京> has been well received by local viewers eager for a refreshing comedy. Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) has always been a guarantor for ratings, but many viewers are curious as to why Jinny Ng (吳若希) was chosen as the female lead.

In the drama, Jacky Cai (蔡潔) and Yvette Chan (陳星妤) are the supporting actresses. Both were commended for their performances in Night Beauties <一舞傾城>. Jacky has never been a lead actress in a TVB drama, but her acting skills will likely pave way for that opportunity in the near future. Since joining Miss Hong Kong 2021, Yvette was the first contestant from that year to receive such a dramatic acting opportunity right after the pageant.

In contrast, Jinny is primarily known as a singer although she has filmed several dramas and movies. While From Hong Kong to Beijing is targeted towards the Hong Kong market, but it still hopes to attract the Chinese audience. Compared to Jacky and Yvette, Jinny is more famous in China. Her song Love is Not Easy <越難越愛> is very popular within the Guangdong area and she has held concerts across China.

  1. I feel like the article belittles her acting efforts. She did well in all her previous acting roles especially in Young Charioteers with Him Law and Sisley. She both a singer and actress. If she didn’t get marry or have a kid so young, she would have been on the rise as well.

    1. I agree. She was also convincing in “Wonder Women” acting alongside Pakho. She played her character well.
