Lawrence Ng to Portray Doctor in New TVB Drama

Iconic in his role in the classic Healing Hands <妙手仁心>, Lawrence Ng (吳啟華) will again don a white lab coat and play doctor in an upcoming TVB drama.  Produced by Amy Wong (王心慰), the drama is tentatively titled The Sins of Wrongdoing <非份之罪> and will commence filming next month.

Facing declining viewership ratings for years, TVB has been struggling to produce crowd pleasing dramas. TVB has invited many veteran artistes to film for the station again due to their star power and ability to attract large audiences in Hong Kong and China. After Charmaine Sheh’s (佘詩曼) The Queen of News (新聞女王), the next big project to watch for is Lawrence Ng’s (吳啟華) comeback.

Residing in China now, Lawrence has focused his career in the Chinese market in recent years. His last TVB project was crime drama, 2016’s Presumed Accidents (純熟意外). Returning to the station after nearly eight years, Lawrence will surely set off nostalgic sparks. He had last worked with producer Amy Wong 21 years ago on Back to Square One <撲水冤家>.

Based on real cases, Sins of Wrongdoing will feature 6 short stories and contain a total of 25 episodes. Lawrence will star in one story where he portrays the father of Joey Thye (戴祖儀) and Kayan Yau (游嘉欣). His wife will be played by German-Chinese actress Ankie Beilke (貝安琪).

Elaborating on his new role, Lawrence said, “I’ll stay in Hong Kong to film for one month. It’s been many years since I worked with TVB. It’s not a medical drama this time, but my character is a doctor.” Asked if he minds portraying a father to two actresses in their twenties, Lawrence laughed, “I’ll turn 60 next year! It’s not a problem to have daughters in their twenties. Many dads look very young nowadays.”
