Lawrence Ng Lives a Frugal Life for His Ex-Wife

Their divorce didn’t seem like a separation at all.

Lawrence Ng (吳啟華) and his ex-wife Shi Yangzi (石洋子) share custody of their 8-year-old daughter, who lives with her grandmother. Whenever Lawrence is free from work obligations in Hong Kong, he would travel back to Mainland China to visit her and take her to family trips. Shi Yangzi and her mother would also come along.

The 53-year-old has started his own dessert shop, which has opened its tenth store. Despite his wealth, Lawrence still lives a frugal life, as most of his money goes to his daughter and her mother. Lawrence has downgraded his Hong Kong home from a HK$100,000 per month luxury suite to a much smaller apartment that is worth only half of that. The smaller apartment building also has a suicide history.

Lawrence married Shi Yangzi, who is 21 years his junior, in 2007. Seven years later, the couple called it quits, but have decided to share custody of their daughter. Lawrence gives his ex-wife over HK$200,000 a month for alimony.
