Leilia Tong Announces Marriage

Leila Tong announced yesterday on Weibo that she is getting married with her boyfriend of 3 years, Deng Wei Jie, also a theater artist.  On her Weibo post, Leila said, “Thanks to everyone for supporting us all this time.  I’m letting everyone know that I’m about to enter the next stage of my life, I’m getting married!!!”

Twenty-eight-year-old Leila Tong met Deng Wei Jie in 2007 through a theater show collaboration and both were immediately attracted to each others’ talent.  Last year, the two of them moved in together and since they did not want her family to worry, they recently decided to get married with a simplistic gathering.  Currently there are no plans of a wedding banquet.  When asked whether she announced her marriage so she can have kids, Leila Tong’s manager said, “Go with the flow.”

Several other artist also congratulated Leila, including Pakho Chau and Kenneth Ma.

  1. Congrats Leila. While reading about her other articles, she was romantically linked to Stephen Au Gum Tong and C-Kwon from FAMA.

  2. Congrats to Leila. I’ve always enjoyed her performances although she was never promoted heavily like some of the other actresses. She is like another Selena Li who have decent acting but does not get a lot of exposure in terms of grand productions or more pubicized, popular series. She needs a good script. But I think she acts quite well and she seems pretty low-key most of time. Very happy news for her.

  3. Congrats to her. I agree Leila’s acting skills is way above the other girls in her genaeration especially the MHKs and MCIs but she’s underpromoted by TVB. The only time I dislike her acting is in LMS. She’s too baby cute to make a convincing bad officewoman. Other than this she’s great in all her series. I wish her the best marriage.

  4. Leila is not good in ‘Twins of Brother’. Her was of speaking is too hard for her graceful and gentle character.

  5. I was taken by surprise in her decision to marry so young. For an actress, marrying at 28 is quite young, since she has another 7 years of her prime she can devote to her career. I hope marriage would not affect her ouput, as leila is quite a capable actress.

In past interviews, Leila did mention she did not like to fight for fame with the other actresses, but I thought it was just a PR answer, since many artists say that but don’t really mean it inside. I guess she did mean it for real.

  6. TVB offered Leila a contract but, Leila NEVER signed TVB as management nor any long term contract. She only picked scripts at her leisure. So, this probably why we see her randomly…. on and off in TVB series. Knowing TVb why would they promote someone who is not contracted with them long term??

  7. I think this is a good decision to put her family life above work. And even though she is not as aggressively promoted, hopefully she will be in this for the marathon rather than a sprint. I wish her best of luck.

  8. WOW, this came out of no where…. I did not even know that Leila was dating anyone, but now all of a sudden she is getting married?? I guess I should not be shocked because at one moment someone can be single, then at the next moment date, then the next moment get married out of the blue. Congrats to her and hope that her marriage will last. Just because she is married does not mean that she has to retire and stop acting. She can still continue until she actually has kids. But then again, she can still act even after having kids too. Therefore, I don’t think her fans and the audience need to miss her too much. I am glad that she openly announced everything instead of hiding it.

When she choose her stage name, you did choose it for the marathon run. The want to create the stage name for her gave her 2 choices. One, she will become famous very fast but might not last. The second one, she will build her career and fame slowly but will last. She chose the second name.

  10. Congratulations to Leila! Perhaps she can set a good example to other actresses and actors that eventhough in the public eyes, there is no need to not have a private life or hide it. Getting married is not the end of her career but the start of another stage in her life and another stage in her career. Who said that once married, life is over for acting. I personally think Leila has always been a very low-key and down to earth person, and in this case, perhaps very smart. As a woman, we need to decide what is more important in our life, career or family as our body genetically differs from man. Man can marry when they are 50 or 60 and still can have children, but as a woman, as our age increases, our chance decrease aka Carina Lau. I am saying this as I am assuming that Leila will definitely want children. And I am sure that her fans will support her decision.

  11. im surprised the paparazzi didnt know lol since Leila is pretty well known in hong kong and mainland

  12. Totally agree with you Jayzemine! Who said that getting married will mean that your career is over?? There are many actresses that still act even after having kids. Also, getting married is a happy event so why hide it?? Celebrities need to have their own life and need to settle down and have kids too. I am sure that if her fans are her true fans, they will support her no matter what. Best wishes to her!

  13. Leila is not that famous or mega big to have to hide anything. There is an advantage to being moderately well known.

  14. Actually, it has been known for quite a while already that Leila has a boyfriend. At least, I know for quite some time already. It has been mentioned before in some entertainment news report.

  15. Funn, It is true that she is not that well known but she is still known. I have seen stars that are even less known than her try to hide things. I think it just depends on the person. Some are not that known but think they are great and try to hide things, while some are famous but want to reveal things because sooner or later people will find out…You are in the entertainment circle so you cannot hide everything…

  16. actually, as one is still a marketable star, then reputation does matter and the people that are trying to get famous, hide it even more. anyway, what matters to me whether you are a ABC celebrity, is whether you have integrity or not. leila in another article i saw, just said she wanted to live an open life, not hide something as marriage.

some people lie just to keep their sponsors and fans, for example fala chen is already married, but still hides it. wait for the reporters to blow her cover later then. oh wait, they already did.

  17. if you have to hide love, then it aint love. its gold digging *cough* fala chen.

sensible, honest, and mature people do not go to great lengths to fool others. if you are happy with your choice, you share with others who will also be happy with you. thats just a fact of life.

  18. “if you have to hide love, then it aint love. its gold digging *cough* fala chen.”

Already married? Where’s the report? I want to read it.

  19. Marriage is a personal matter. Whether the couple want to reveal it or not is their matter.

If Fala is gold-digging, she will official announced her marriage, be the official Mrs Sit and live a comfortable live as a socialite.

Many artists hide their marriage because their work do depend on their image and marriage status does make a difference, especially for actresses.

I concur with you Kidd. Although I don’t particularly support the act of hiding one’s marriage, I understand why some artistes are hiding theirs, especially “popular” or “rising” mainstream artistes. In my personal view Leila’s career path isn’t that mainstream and she herself choose that path, so in her career environment she doesn’t have any need to hide anything.

Charlene Choi was 23? when she got married and is in the midst of rapidly rising popularity and in the middle of EEG contract. I don’t like how she indirectly lied about being a married woman but to be fair, it’s her choice to prioritize her career over the status of her marriage :).

  21. I am personally against hiding your marriage because regardless of how you try to hide it, people will eventually find out anyways. When they do, what will you say?? Also, marriage is a happy thing so why hide it? You should share your happiness with everyone. If it is something bad like divorce, then I don’t blame them for hiding it since that is something unhappy.

It is true that there are crazy fans out there that dream of marrying their idol and all, but they will eventually have to accept reality and understand that everyone needs to settle down one day. If they are true fans, they will support their idol no matter what.

  22. ohhmygod! leila has been my favourite actress since i watched her shows since i was 5! i thought she was really pretty and sweet and her acting skills were great! she remained as my favourite actress until i was 11/12, maybe because i seldom see her on tv, thats why i started to transfer my likings to other ppl. yes, i agree, she and selena li should be promoted more.
