Korean drama, Lovestruck in the City, premiered on Netflix on December 22. The drama offers a modern take on the romantic lives of young professionals living in the bustling yet busy city. At a beach, a passionate architect (Ji Chang Wook) falls in love at first sight with a free-spirited woman (Kim Ji Won). Although the two characters eventually went their separate ways, they cross paths again two years later with the chance of rekindling their connection.
While there were many picturesque scenes in the drama, Ji Chang Wook confessed that it was challenging for him to film his surfing scenes at the beach. “I really tried my best! Since my abilities were not enough, I affected Kim Ji Won and the stand-in actor.”
In comparison, Kim Ji Won said that she developed an interest in surfing after reading the script. Despite her fear of water, the actress wanted to challenge herself and specifically took swimming lessons for her role.
Building a Strong Chemistry
Director Park Shin Woo humorously confessed that he felt that the two main leads treated each other as siblings and he was initially worried that the two artistes would have trouble portraying a convincing couple. As they got to know each other, they found it was more comfortable to film together. Fortunately, Ji Chang Woo and Kim Ji Won brought their professionalism to the set and persuaded Park Shin Woo that they are indeed perfect for the roles.
As there are many intimate scenes in the drama, Ji Chang Wook worked hard to build a good friendship with Kim Ji Won to avoid having any awkward moments on the set. Kim Ji Won’s first impression of her co-star was positive, and Ji Chang Wook fits exactly to how the script described the character. She praised the actor for being considerate and taking care of her during filming. In return, Ji Chang Wook not only complimented Kim Ji Won’s beauty but also praised her for being reliable and easy to work with.
