Nancy Wu Upset at “Food for the Slaves” PA

TVB’s production assistants are once again hit by another complaint by an artist. After Francis Ng(吳鎮宇) and Chilam Cheung (張智霖), who complained about the poor work performances of the Triumph in the Skies 2 <衝上雲宵II> PAs last year, Nancy Wu (胡定欣) is the next star to publicly voice her disappointment at a TVB production assistant.

The Food for the Slaves <食為奴> star posted a dispirited post on Monday morning, which read, “PA Gor Gor, if you needed to schedule the rundown earlier than planned, please call me. Do not just send a text message, because a text message notification would not be [loud] enough to wake up a person who was still in deep sleep! I’m late now! Mr. Taxi driver also had to take the mountain route!”  The post was attached with a photo of Nancy frowning while sitting at the back of a taxi.

Filming Canceled

Two hours later, Nancy posted another complaint on her Weibo, “On my way, but… it’s raining again. [Can someone] please report about the weather situation in Nam Sang Wai?” The attached photo is a snapshot of Nancy sitting next to a frowning Stephanie Ho (何雁詩) inside a TVB van.

A few hours later, Nancy uploaded another frowning picture of herself, writing, “Off from work. Shooting was canceled. Another waste of time.”

Spring weather is marked with steamy humidity and frequent rain showers. This is not the first time in which shooting for Food for the Slaves had to be canceled due to inconvenient weather conditions.

  1. i would hate to blame the PA for this … these folks make no decision whatsoever. They have to wait for the big boss to make the decision. It didn’t sound like Nancy was entirely upset with the PA either though .

    1. Her only complaint about the PA is that he didn’t call but text her. Which is fully within the PA’s control.

      1. Yea a better method could have been used but Nancy isn’t the only one the PA has to contact. We have to understand the resources available and what’s the best use of that resource. PA’s are like the “Ah 4” of each production and i’m under the assumption TVB is currently very understaffed.

Again, perfection is ideal but sometimes you can’t give it your all in everything and it’s going to be okay.

Not really a fan of Nancy publicizing her complaints on Weibo. Matters like this should be discussed with the PA by kindly saying, “if it’s not too much of an inconvenience, please call.”

      2. It isn’t a great idea to complain on weibo, but she didn’t say anything harsh about the PA. However, if her lateness is found out by reporters, she’ll be complained as princess illness blah blah even if she complains about the PA later (then ppl will say she is only excusing), so do it before they can say anything.

      3. Yes, it was smart of her to preempt the reporters

      4. Text message not acceptable, not if you know Nancy could be sleeping. Definitely a phone call would be the right way to notify her.

    2. Nah, the PA should have called to ensure Nancy knew there was a change in schedule. Just sending a text message isn’t very responsible.

      1. Agreed!
If the shooting earlier stated to be 9am surely she will set her alarm around 7am.
Then loll woke up to find there is a sms and its to inform the shooting to set earlier, anyone will be furious!
If she is late, other artists will only blame her.
Saying she acts like a diva, comes in late when its the PA’s fault in doing their jobs!

      2. Agree. If it was a last minute’s notice, the PA should have called Nancy to make sure that she knew of the change of schedule. She could not be expected to read her SMS every single minute.

        The PA was very irresponsible.

    3. Any person with decent work ethics would not use text to notify someone’s work schedule. That just sounds lazy to me.

    1. The shooting cancelled due to the rain, but the change of schedule to earlier time wasn’t informed to her properly by the PA and she complained at that, not that the PA made the shooting cancelled. Two different things.

  2. ever since she won best supporting actress, she acts as though she’s the leading actress-everything revolves around me. um not yet honey.

    1. That plus when she started dating the rich guy. I am beginning to think that the previous rumours of her suffering from the “princess syndrome” is true 🙂 Nonetheless, Nancy is a great actress. But she has not reached the Liza Wang diva stage yet.

      1. Now I know why I fangirl Nancy, maybe because I see myself in her. I complain about the traffic and the weather. I also complain about my boss, crappy colleagues and working overtime. I found out today that I’m spoilt and have princess syndrome.

      2. I like Nancy Wu’s acting, but am not sure of her personalities.

Perhaps it is true that after she dated the rich guy, she is making more noises. It is sad. She has the acting talents and I hope her personalities will not jeopardize her future acting opportunities.

    2. What century are we living in again? It’s the 21ST CENTURY people. The era of social networking sites like twitter, facebook, and instagram. Sounds to me like she was just being any other modern and normal person out there using Weibo like such sites. She is definitely not acting as though “she’s the leading actress-everything revolves around me”. Biased much?

    1. Yes is not harsh , maybe she finds the weather too boring, putting some sunshine onto it 🙂

  3. i notice Nancy Wu always have negative news reported on her…She is great actress with 1st lead potential indeed…She can be the next Fadan… Her acting is way beyond some Fadan now..Hope TVB will cherish her status

  4. Love Nancy as an actress! Not liking her personality much. My friend in HK has worked with her once before on TV AD and said that Nancy is really rude and mean to the staffs.

    1. It is sad to learn about her real personalities. Probably that is the reason why she is not promoted highly by TVB.

      1. I’m not trying to ‘defend’ Nancy or anything, but the truth is you haven’t learnt her ‘real personalities’ just by reading off articles lol. No human is perfect- nor does anyone have a one sided personality.

      2. Unless you have personally met and talked to her, it is not wise to listen to secondary sources eh? People are really gullible these days to believe everything that is told to them. Wow, is all I can say.

    2. And I have met Nancy at least 10 times, but not going to type out each encounter since whatever I say isn’t going to count cos I’m a fan 😉

      1. Too long. I’ll just say every time I asked I could get a picture willingly, I did not force my face next to hers like what I have seen some fans do to their idols.

  5. Frankly, I didn’t care when chilam scolded the pa in tits, so I don’t care about this either….
But, do remember chilams words were Much worse than nancy’s and how many of you still like him?

Chilam’s post read, “I strongly urge the Triumph in the Skies 2 production assistant crew to find better job opportunities elsewhere! Acting may be an entertainment career, but in truth, it is also a job that requires effort and it needs to be handled in a serious manner. With your messy schedules and confusing arrangements, you guys don’t even know what you’re doing! Not only is this disrespectful to the actors, it is also disrespectful to the audience! You guys are bringing down the television industry to ruins! The downfall of Hong Kong television dramas will be all on you guys!”

Two hours later, Chilam expressed that he has calmed down, and wrote, “I suddenly realized that I am the one who should say sorry. I should not carry such high expectations. I did not take your abilities into account. I am sorry!”

Chilam vs nancy is quite different.

Nancy may had be grumpy enough(ok, WHO isn’t grumpy in the mornings?) to post that on weibo, but her words are not inappropriate nor in any sense insulting or rude. Btw, she did not punctuate her sentences with exclamation marks, which gave it a sense of impatience and superiority.
    I love you.
    I love you!
    I love you!!!!!!!
    Theres a difference.

The way she wrote it, reads like a half asleep person grumbling. Check out her weibo if you don’t believe.
    http://weibo.com/1715674341/zqgh7C7fZ

But if its someone from my office regarding an urgent matter?? = rant. pissed. (we are stressed in the first place)
But who on earth is so stupid??????????????????
Can anyone tell me about a personal experience with colleagues texting you to get in at 6am for a meeting when its supposed to start at 8 with everyone arriving on time?

    1. Apparently, grumbling is wrong and uncalled for. So is whining, frowning and pouting. Never do it cos you’ll be labelled as princess disease. Always smile no matter how unhappy you are. As an artiste, every thing you do must give people the impression you’re little miss sunshine.

      1. If you do that, you are called “fake” or “no personality” or “try hard”
        No one can win.

      2. I would rather be a bit*h than try to be a saint. 😛

      3. Joey, you’re right, if you want to cultivate a goody two shoes image. Now if you’re like a rocker, no one cares. In fact trashing hotels and throwing around F words is a must! So depends on your image.

Grumbling is fine but look at it this way; she get to go off sooner than most of others could and she could arrive later than most of the production team. And she gets paid more than the production team. I agree with the whole last notice issue but you know, pity the hundreds of production crew too.

      4. No no! Grumbling is not okay, when you grumble, then there is a big problem with your personality!

      5. I get your point about the production crew. Everyone have their own responsibilities at work. It is okay for the PA to text everyone, sending a mass message saves time and effort. But if someone doesn’t reply, then he should have called.

No need to take me seriously, I am just venting on the internet.

    2. “Can anyone tell me about a personal experience with colleagues texting you to get in at 6am for a meeting when its supposed to start at 8 with everyone arriving on time?”

If your boss is Bill Gates or Warren Buffet and he insists on an earlier meeting, you don’t say no, die also you must reach on time. Depends on nature of work.

      1. If they needed me to get in 2 hrs earlier, will they relegate that duty to their secretary/pa? you think bill gates or warren buffet is THAT stupid to hire someone that only texts when they want you to get in 2 hrs earlier? No… No…. NOOOOOOOO.

His “PA” is probably an MBA with 10 years of managerial experiences at a fortune500 company.

TVB’s “PA” = Form 5 or lower due to their cheap wages.

      2. Surely you can’t expect your boss to call you personally? There is a reason why he has a secretary or PA.

      3. 1.Will they pass that duty to PA? = yes
        2. Does WB hire stupid people? = No
        3. Is said PA stupid? = no

  6. The artists’ have a right to feel/be frustrated or angry, even though some may argue it’s not entirely PA’s fault, both parties have a job that’s quite demanding so obviously there would be bumps along the way.. The most INAPPROPIATE thing to do is then vent about their frustration ON THE INTERNET…i don’t understand- they know they are a public figure- of course everyone has a right to say what they feel, but come on now…if you’re an artist, it isn’t wise to vent your frustration over someone over the net for the whole world to read. No matter how pissed off they are, they should deal/discuss it in private matters. But then again, human’s arent perfect, being in a heated moment an individual can let loose and make anything happen.

Whoever’s fault it is, it shouldn’t matter to the public-it should have been dealt with behind the scenes to show their professionalism.

    1. I agree. Nancy seems to be doing this for self-interest because she didn’t want others to mistaken her as being late so she publicly blames the PA, when if she just wanted it resolved, she could of had a talk with the PA behind the scenes or with TVB the company in private, instead of letting media catch wind of another drama she creates.

      1. If she is kind to others, they will be kind to her. She isn’t kind to the PA in this case so in turn, why should she expect the media to be kind to her? She will be treated how she treats others. Every article I read, she is always running her mouth without thinking, she was inadvertently ridiculing the other stars that got promoted before her, then questioned why she wasn’t, in every one of her article, she complains about others. What am I supposed to think of her? She doesnt need to blame the media, she should blame herself for badmouthing others.

      2. Im really not trying to be mean here but if she was humble, she wouldn’t be out there blaming Kenneth for what happened to her, its like she never takes responsibility for how she is perceived when in fact, the media will not have anything to write about if she didnt keep feeding them her rants, insecurity, paranoia, and discontent about her colleagues and now PA.

      3. Lol. Its wrong if she does not want reporters to think she was late and made everyone wait so she asked the PA to call her next time? Yeah, I’ll think about it.

Note her use of words, it was PA gorgor and not PA dai lou. If she was being rude she would have used the latter.

Some people just love to jump to conclusions without reading the full article.

  7. PA can’t predict the weather so they can’t be blamed. But the notice by SMS is of course sorta unprofessional since it must be short notice.

But Nancy, be careful before you earn the wrath of the PAs. Look at what happened to Chilam and Francis. And they’re more famous.

    1. But I bet, she wasted like how many hours of her time? Imagine the poor PAs and director and assistant director and etc who probably was there many hours before her and will be there many hours after she left. Poor them too.

      1. And they got paid a fraction what she got paid.

      2. Maybe they all weibo about that stupid assistant?

      3. But time wasted is time wasted. It’s valuable to everyone.

Imo, the bottom line is Nancy shouldn’t have posted her frustrated on weibo- it doesn’t do any good for both sides really…lol.

    2. Only the first post was about the PA, the rest were about the weather. Nancy had to leave early cos she had an event in the evening, I don’t know about the rest. Maybe they stayed and got things done when the rain stopped.

  8. I feel mad about these negative media about Nancy. Apparently, when big stars like Francis and Chilam rant about the PA, the majority supports them, but Nancy harmlessly posted pictures and a few lines, she’s called arrogant, having a change of attitude after winning BSA. Judging from the pictures, she has her hair all done while waiting in the car.

I’ve met her at the malaysia event and she was real nice. I wanted to take a picture with Wayne first, and she kinda knew from my nervous gaze, and kindly stepped aside from the frame. Afterwards, I took a picture with her (individually and together with Wayne too) and showed her a collage I made with her pictures.

I must say, she’s very nice and her pretty smile never left her face.

    1. Thanks for clarifying Nancy Wu’s personality. I personally don’t know her, and just learned everything from the media. I also like her because of her good acting skills, and feel sorry for her for the lack of promotion by TVB.

    2. i dont know where you got that Chilam or Francis was supported, in fact, most ppl called them out for making a fuss. even the audience favorite chilam reflected that he acted wrongly and afterwards he tried to put himself in their shoes. if anything the audience is fair in their assessment of the attitude of some of these stars that just put themselves above everybody else.

once again, you guys are creating drama out of nothing at all. nancy posts a rant, then her fans go rant on the minority that disapprove of this type of “blame the PA again” behavior.

  9. I totally agree with Chiki. I saw Nancy at an event in SG. Very pretty in person and very nice to the fans. What impresses me is that she took the effort to stand at the edge of a small stage stretching her hand to give some of the fans a handshake. You should have seen the anxious face of her assistant holding on to her other hand hoping she wont fall ! 😀

    1. Naysayers will say..

      ‘Just a handshake? No hugs?’

I have no doubt she is friendly. After all she is amongst fans, she has got to be well behaved. Real personality comes from how she treats those beneath her, her PAs, etc. I am not convinced by these reports of her being arrogant, egoistical. But I do believe there may be cause to believe she may not have been the most approachable stars to worth with.

      1. Some people just take longer to warm up to others.

      2. How she treats those beneath her ? I won’t comment on things that I do not experience or see with my own eyes. Neither will I presume or believe or deduce from press reports, rumors or third party saying.

    2. Heh I went to that event. Just from that event, I would say Nancy and Edwin were the nicer ones. Edwin looks into your eyes when he shakes your hand. Nancy was looking down to make sure she wouldn’t fall off the stage. LOL.

      1. Yup, I agree that both were the nicest even though they may not have the most fans that day.

  10. imagine if you have 100 colleagues plus, how can the PA call all of them in a timely manner? sending out a mass text and clicking their names on a list is more efficient.

nancy should try to be more understanding instead of airing her rant on the PA. she just seems like she wants to take it out on someone when in life, we all know that shtt happens. dont make it worse for others. we cant control the weather or what happens, sometimes we dont think too in depth and just do whats convenient. dont blame the PA, at least they did send out something rather than nothing at all.

    1. yes, of course, we always want to do the convenient thing, but he should follow up with those who did not acknowledge receipt?

” sometimes we dont think too in depth and just do whats convenient. dont blame the PA, at least they did send out something rather than nothing at all.”
Main reason why many people aren’t getting promotions and increments. and they complain about that. Sigh.

      1. how do you suppose he follows up? by calling each and everyone one of them? maybe he was never instructed to do call but just to text.

“Main reason why many people aren’t getting promotions and increments. and they complain about that. Sigh”

same principle can applied to nancy then, if she wants to be promoted, she should do more also, which is waking up ahead of time, do all her hair, makeup, check her phone earlier. she should do more, according to your argument, not just groggily wake up then realized she missed filming.

      2. anything that involves volumes, you need to manage time, which the PA did right, which was to text everyone.

      3. When he first text them, he should include a reminder to acknowledge the receipt, and to call up those that did not reply? If few people acknowledged, it means that texting is inadequate despite saving time? And people are not getting the message? If it’s getting the message across to most, will there still be many to follow up?

“same principle can applied to nancy then, if she wants to be promoted”
Well, hope you tell the same to your boss if your time-savings effort made him miss a meeting and he is reprimanding you. Tell him you wanted to save time, and its HIS fault for not waking up 2 hours earlier to check his messages.
        Good luck!

      4. i think you are getting overdefensive for nancy. first of all, the PA did a sufficient job, which was to mass communicate, its not all his fault, you need the other end to help you out also and coordinate. dont need to skin someone that they didnt cover all the bases for your idol.

the whole boss thing is a moot pt because ppl prioritize differently with different ppl.

      5. your idol acted wrongly for criticizing and humiliating others in public instead resolving it internally and here you are heaping all the blame again on anyone else for all her personal woes on her image when she simply lacks EQ for a public figure, and wonder why she is hated by some.

      6. “the whole boss thing is a moot pt because ppl prioritize differently with different ppl.”

Then you must be really bad with prioritization.
        1. An Extra
        2. Make up Artist
        3. A 2nd lead actress
        4. Assistant cameraman 2
Pick the one of more importance to complete the scene. By your logic, the PA should have called if they know how to prioritize. There’s 5-10 actors? 1 director? You are going there to FILM those people, yet they are “low priority” in your opinion. Smart!

      7. If you need to report to work at 8 for a meeting do you wake up at 4 just in case your boss tells you to report early? Or do you wake up at 6 to prepare?

How would you feel if u woke up at 6, with sufficient time to prepare if you had to report at 8, only to realise you were supposed to report at 6 and your colleague only sent a text message to inform you about it? When you didn’t reply and he knew there was a chance you were still asleep, he couldn’t even take the effort to send a few more text messages. Tell me you’ll love him for letting you sleep more and missing the meeting with your boss.

  11. If you don’t like an artiste, you will surely support all the negative reporting about him/her. On the other hand, if the artiste is your idol, you will fight back everything negative and believe everything positive or even fake.

That is how it works here!

  12. Maybe TVB should set up an automated phone alerts to call up the people of their schedule change. Like how it is for my schools in the US of snow day closing or delay opening, usually 2 hours in advance notice before school starts.
