Ron Ng and Linda Chung Dissatisfied with TVB
In recent years, many TVB artistes opted not to renew their management contracts and focus on the Mainland Chinese market instead due to higher salaries. Ron Ng (吳卓羲) and Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) are the latest artistes reportedly dissatisfied with their stagnant careers at TVB and may leave the station once their contracts expire.
Ron to Leave TVB Next Year?
Ron was heavily promoted by TVB since 2003’s Triumph in the Skies <衝上雲宵>. Although Ron quickly shot to stardom and he attained leading man status, his popularity slowed down in the recent years due to endless negative romantic rumors.
Given many chances at renewing his image, Ron met with TVB’s higher management but his popularity continued to drop. TVB demoted Ron from leading status and began promoting actors such as Ruco Chan ( 陳展鵬) and Edwin Siu (蕭正楠) instead. Unhappy with TVB’s arrangement, Ron is speculated to not renew his contract next year and will head to Mainland China instead.
Ruco, who entered TVB later than Ron, has been heavily promoted in the last three years. Although both actors starred in Ruse of Engagement <叛逃>, Ruco won the Best Actor award at the StarHub TVB Awards 2014 in Singapore. Although Ron was initially regarded as the lead in Lady Sour <醋娘子>, TVB shifted focus to Him Law (羅仲謙) during the promotions and opted to give Him more screen time than Ron.
Linda Chung to Leave TVB?
Attaining leading status since her debut, Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣) may also leave TVB depending on the results of the 48th TVB Anniversary Awards. Evidently displeased in losing Best Actress last year, Linda believes her chances this year are also fairly slim with Charmaine Sheh’s (佘詩曼) return and performance in Line Walker <使徒行者>.
With this year’s attention on newcomers Grace Chan (陳凱琳) and Sisley Choi (蔡思貝), this leaves very little room for Linda, who has yet to receive a significant award in recent years at TVB.

Yeah…Ruco was really really good in ROE. Ron cannot measure up to Ruco’s acting in ROE. Even if Ron was given the lead role as Carson, he probably can’t deliver it in a convincing manner like what Ruco did. Ruco more than deserve the BA in the Starhub TVB award. I am a fan of Ruco but I don’t hate Ron. Just simply stating facts.
This doesn’t seem true for Linda as she would not leave TVB because she doesn’t receive awards. She has taken her losses in recent years professionally so I would not think she has that kind of attitude toward award. She may leave TVB just to get married or come back to Canada once her contract expires. But agree that “TVB is over” once Linda and other fadans leave. Lots of people like Linda’s acting. The station will lose significant amount of fans because of that, in addition to the growth of HKTV.
Linda should really re-evaluate her acting skills being expressing dissatisfaction. but honestly where is she going to go if she leaves TVB? has she even acted in any mainland dramas yet? her best option would be HKTV =P

Agree big time. Her acting in TC2 is really exaggerated and she tried to hard to shake off that goody-two-shoe girl next door image. Her eye expression is so OTT that it irks many viewers. Many people stopped watching TC2 because they can’t stand the sight of Linda. I don’t hate Linda but I think TVB overestimated her. Maybe Linda also overestimated herself as apparently she thinks TC2 is her breakthrough role in her acting career (from her interview after the Astro award). Frankly she has Ruco to thank for bagging the best actress award at Astro in 2013 for her role in BK. To me, she’s just a pretty face.

And she said her RC2 role shows her acting skills!! Maybe she meant bad acting skills. LOL. I don’t hate Linda but her acting in RC2 is really really bad. In fact, I like the Ruco-Linda pairing. I love PanDa pairing too <3 Much as I like Linda, i think she has deteriorated in her acting. Her acting in ATIBIS is worse than BK. She's lucky to have won the Astro in 2013, her Rachel wasn't particularly memorable. Just goes to show that luck and timing are everything. Now if only Ruco could have the same type of luck! Poor guy always misses by half a step.

Toby i agree with you. This is stirring up unnecessary comparison betw Ruco and Ron and makes it seem like it’s Ruco’s fault that Ron’s been sidelined. To me, I don’t think Tvb values Ruco very much as he’s always cast in small productions and always made to babysit. I would like to see him in a grand production with a strong cast, perhaps facing off with TV kings Wayne and Roger. To be honest, I think assigning him to Candy has not changed his career path very much. Other than COD, I don’t know what he has lined up for him next year.
I don’t know anon,I had some discussions with other Ruco fans back then on maybe assigning him to Candy Ma who managed Raymond Lan might help Ruco, but you’re right not too inpressed with COD. We can only hope that he’s the real lead in COD and his role is amazing. I also hope EITS makes Ruco fantastic next year.
If after COD Candy still can’t manage to get Ruco a real great job and not babysitting, I’ll have to rethink my impressions on her. Maybe she also play favourites, who knows?

Linda has no market outside TVB. A few yeas back she failed to enter movie industry and now too old and worn out to do so. She also isn’t well received in mainland, too big boned and too westernized for mainland dramas.

Ron’s acting sucks… what does he expect ? I doubt he will do any better in mainland especially with much more competition there. There are way better looking guys with way better acting skills in mainland and he can’t compete.
But the fact that in China, he still gets leading roles and pretty high price. So far, comparing to the supporting roles TVB is giving him, Ron will have better career outside.
@Akkuka Agree 100% TVB is giving Ron supporting Roles and less pay. But on the other hand main gives him higher pay more time rest and 1st leading roles. Over the years I saw Bosco sitting in front of Ron in the awards then Kenneth Ma then Ruco and now even Edwin Siu. Soon Him Law would be sitting in front of Ron in awards show. AS you can see his statues in TVB is getting lower. There is no reason to stay in TVB for Ron.

I never felt that Roger had a dead end as he always played leading roles in China series. Even without TVB,he was doing pretty well.

As for Ron, I am neutral towards him but it’s no great loss for TVB as well. The kind of roles he had undertaken the past few years can be filled by quite a number of artistes and could played them even better than him.

The types of characters that Ron and Linda plays in TVB are kinda typecasted and yeah, their career has stagnated. Regardless of whether they’ve attained popularity and Best Actress status, it’s probably a good idea to try new things and their career elsewhere. I feel a little sorry for Linda as I didn’t know she wanted the Best Actress award that badly. Maybe she got a little more ambitious throughout the years, but she should be glad that TVB put so much effort into promoting her in her early years, just like they’re doing to Grace and Sisley now. She entered the industry playing leading roles as well. I think she’s a fine leading actress, but not a versatile one. Other than her good girl roles which she does very well in, she can’t play other roles without making it look much like she’s deliberately acting. I feel bad for her, but still don’t she’s deserving of the Best Actress title.

I think Linda committed career suicide in TC2. She tried way too hard. And I wondered why her co-stars or producer never told her or gave her any comments. And to think Joe Ma said TC2 deserves to win all the categories of award they have been nominated for in the coming TVB award?!?!

myolie, nancy, fala, Priscilla, tracy chu should be given a chance. mandy wong is so-so. those in their mid-30s will have a limit when they have to act as young characters. so, tvb has to consider promoting those in their 20s.

If the artists leave TVB and head to mainland, then that’s easy. I will quit tvb dramas and watch mainland chinese dramas with the artists from tvb. Plus, I’ve been watching a few mainland dramas without knowing most of the artists there and their dramas are better with good endings. Unlike tvb, their dramas has open-ended or crappy endings.
If all the artist leaves TVB then whats left is a bunch of newbies and all the series rating will drop and HKTV will rise since most ex- artist from that companies where from TVB

I think Linda is doing a great job in TC2! Her character is SUPPOSED to be psychotic and dramatic because of the traumatic experience. Her acting in the first episode gave me chills and she will just keep getting crazier as shown in promo clips. I wish she was nominated for Best Actress with this role but instead I have a feeling shes going to get the Favorite Character Award instead as a consolation.

I agree with the second part of your comments, RC but with a different reason:
1) she is not getting BA because she is nominated for the wrong work. Her TC 2 performance is breakthrough imo. This seems something intentional of TVB executives.
2) she is not getting mfc because Her character’s personality is not something lovely or favorable by viewers. Blame the script!
Linda got a breakthrough character in TC2 but failed to execute it with her acting. Felt pretentious and fake, not natural at all. She keeps clenching her jaws to create a supposedly macho aura but looks weird and too deliberate. That’s why TVB nominated her for ATBIS although she was bad there too.

Maybe her character is really a pyscho? Haha, anyway great acting from linda as she is able to invoke such strong emotions from people. The character she is playing is supposed to make viewers feel uncomfortable because the character is a psycho and socially awkward person.
Blame the script writer. There is just too little dialogue and screen time from episode 2-6 to allow audience to truly understand and immerse into her chatacter and background. It is not fair to pass judgement that she looks constipated. Don’t think anyone, not even Wayne Lai can pull off a character like with so little screen time. Most of the time from epi 2-6, she is required to show the insane side of her, then snap, the next scene involving other ppl come on, mostly on the tiger cubs.
The part about Linda being dumped in the water is always repeated. I know she is not able to forget that. Anyway, there is no chemistry between Linda and joe.

I admit I like Charmaine. after kate’s cutesy performance in TIAD, it’s obvious she cannot get go further. Charmaine was a little over in the beginning of LW but delivered a fantastic job as a calculative, money-hungry UC.
Linda chung is hands down the prettiest actress in tvb…its a must to keep her !
