Ryan Ding’s Popularity Rises With “The Romance of Tiger and Rose”
Mainland actor Ryan Ding (丁禹兮) is the next rising star to watch out for following his breakout performance in the historical drama, The Romance of Tiger and Rose <传闻中的陈芊芊>. Within 11 days, the drama had 600 million views and sky-high ratings – landing leads Ryan and Rosy Zhao (赵露思) at the top of the most popular actors and actresses rankings for this month. As they both continue to soar in popularity, netizens have put on their detective hats to learn more about the two, especially Ryan, who is a fairly new face on TV.
The 24-year-old initially wanted to work behind-the-scenes after graduating from a directing course at the Shanghai Theater Academy, but he changed his mind after appearing in multiple print advertisements. With his newfound passion for being in front of the camera, Ryan wanted to act.
In 2018, he debuted as an actor playing one of the leads in New Smiling Proud Wanderer <新笑傲江湖>. His portrayal of Dongfang Bubai was well-received by audiences and immediately earned him a hotspot in the search rankings. Viewers praised Ryan for his grasp on both eastern masculine and feminine qualities. Ryan also had viewers swooning over his portrayal as the neat-looking scholar Su Shi in Sernande of Peaceful Joy <清平乐>. Fans dubbed him as “the most handsome Su Shi” with his well-defined looks and gentle temperament.
Finally, his latest performance in The Romance of Tiger and Rose has completely captivated viewers through his adorable and fierce protectiveness over Rosy, who plays his wife. Displaying great on-screen chemistry, the pair’s kiss scenes have fans exclaiming, “This sweetness is too addictive!”
Since all three of his dramas aired this spring were well-received, 2020 is deemed to be a prosperous year for Ryan. Similar to how Li Xian (李現) was nicknamed the “July Boyfriend” after the success of hit drama Go Go Squid! <亲爱的, 热爱的> last summer, Ryan is referred to as the “May Boyfriend” by his growing fanbase.

Ryan Ding is really a great actor. I watched four of his dramas within two weeks. His dramas “Just an Encore” and “Reset Life” are very good also. Definitely I’m looking forward to see more of his work.
OMG I only watched one of his drama, “Romance of Tiger and Rose”, but it’s totally not possible not to fall in love with him in the show LOL, he’s just too cute! Not planning to watch his other shows currently though, too many c-dramas in a limited time are not good for my mental health hahahahaha too unrealistic/rom-com, maybe in the future, but yeah his acting in this show is 很上头!
