“Stars Academy” Popular Contestant Gigi Yan Won’t Place in Top 3?
With the finals of singing competition Stars Academy <聲夢傳奇> scheduled to air on July 19, unexpected rumors surfaced that 15-year-old Gigi Yan’s (炎明熹) is reportedly was ousted as she had refused to sign with TVB.
The popular contestants’winning chances were affected as she was not keen to ink a contract with the station, which had offered contracts to all the top 10 contestants of the contest.
All Contestants Already Signed With TVB
Refuting such talk, TVB corporate communications replied, “Recent reports and speculation revolving around the contest outcome of [Stars Academy], claiming that Gigi won’t make it to final three because she did not sign on to TVB, are completely baseless.”
The statement added that all contestants have already signed a five-year contract with TVB prior to the start of the contest. The live finals scheduled for July 19 will be completely fair and transparent, since voting from viewers would also count towards the final outcome, in addition to scores from professional judges.
Having displayed powerful vocals and stage presence, Gigi had first impressed viewers with her rendition of Faye Wong’s (王菲) “Guarding the Wheatfield” <守望麦田>, and was praised for her “fantastic” vocal design by judge Hanjin Tan (陳奐仁) in another episode. Summing up her feelings in an Instagram post, she apologized that her recent performance was not up-to-par, but affirmed that she will continue working hard given the invaluable experience of the contest.

Hope she wins! Out of all of them I think she has that singer celeb look, ready for debut!
Gigi is my favourite contestant, I have been rooting for her since the beginning. With her potential she’s actually pretty smart to not sign with TVB
I’m rooting for either Gigi, Rock, or Archie. I seriously can’t choose between them as they are all so talented.
With the way they promoted her before the show even began, I was ready to root for others but she is just too talented and has a nice humble personality so I’m rooting for her to win. I like a lot of the other contestants too.. the show did a really good job.
she looks very matured for her age I thought she’s older than that maybe around 20?

Her voice is unique and she can sing so various styles! I think she is actually very smart to have cut this hairstyle as it makes her stand out and makes people remember her easily!
