Takashi Sorimachi in “GTO Revival”

After 26 years, a special version of all-time classic drama GTO is set to air in Spring 2024, as announced by Fuji TV, in commemoration of the station’s 65th anniversary! Named GTO Revival, Actor of the original hit series Takashi Sorimachi will return as wacky and resourceful titular character Onizuka, who is assigned to a troubled high school where he helps his students with a host of school and home issues.

Sorimachi Relishes His New Challenge

Sealing their romance after co-starring in the iconic 1998 summer sensation, Takashi married his “TV Queen” and co-star, actress Nanako Matsushima in 2001. News of the special version has sent waves of excitement among netizens, who can’t wait to see the real-life couple uniting onscreen!

With filming having begun, Takashi revealed that he had actually declined several previous invitations to star in GTO when approached. As he felt that the new TV special is especially meaningful, he initiated his own participation this time round, to portray “a new hero for the Reiwa era“.

Now a father to two daughters, the 49-year-old is cognizant of how a quarter of a century has passed since his last performance, and is curious about how he should now portray the character Onizuka, and the kind of chemistry he could possibly convey to viewers through his depiction of the Great Teacher, in helping his students solve their problems.
